Anyone looked through both of these optics?

Palmetto is giving away the 1-8 strike eagle for less than half the cost of the PST and wondering just how much worse it really is. I like the idea of a little more zoom on the top end even if I don’t use it all the time. How bad is the clarity especially on 1x and 8x?

Basically a crossfire ii. Hit or miss. You pays your money takes your pick. You could do worse, i might buy one if the price was right and i found it useful.

My biggest issue is apparently I am not a sub MOA shooter with a 6x scope. When I had a sightmark 12x I was getting 1/2-3/4” groups but am seeing 2+” groups and that’s not okay.

But the rifle has an 8” barrel so it seems stupid to throw a standard rifle scope on it. 300blk.

I have the 1-8 strike Eagle on an AR. At 1x on an AR it is very good. It is a true 1x. About perfect for both eyes open full peripheral vision shooting. The illuminated dot and halo make it fast to use. Variable intensity is useful in full sunlight and turns down low enough to not kill your night vision when it is dark. On 8x the glass is a little milky. Clarity is good enough and the dot is small enough for tight groups at the range but lacking as a hunting scope. I don’t particularly care for the 1/2 moa adjustments of the turrets but it is useable.

No experience with the PST.

After reading your second post: you can see well enough to do this for 3 at 100 yards at the range in good light. The 1/2 MOA adjustable turrets do not have fine enough adjustment to precisely center the point of impact. Like I said in my previous post useable.

No experience with the strike eagle but I HAD the 1-6 PST on my grendel.
Pros:
-glass was pretty decent through all mag ranges
-compact and lightish
-with a throw lever, the zoom was smooth
Cons:
-capped turrets
-on 1x power I could see my suppressor in the bottom of my scope. May be normal, but it drove me nuts so I lived on 2x most of the time.
-illumination knob was really short and was sometimes hard to turn on if you have gloves on.

Sold the PST and picked up an Athlon Helos BTR 2-12x42 and have been happy with it. The glass is decent, exposed turrets but lockable, pretty decent price. I wasn't a huge fan of the reticle but I'm slowly getting used to it for hogs. It's good for getting on one quickly with the large circle, which is roughly the size of a large hog's shoulder.

Is your a first or second focal plane?

Some of the pictures make the second focal plane reticle look stupid tiny.

Second. I wanted the reticle to remain bold at one power.

I have one of these on a Galil ACE 308. I like it a lot. It’s $200 off.

I have many PA optics. You get a lot for the money. Houston based company.

The primary optics get compared as being similar but the vortex is $300 with a mount right now, and most of what I read as they are pretty comparable quality wise.

What length barrel? I just got my 12 inch barrel and was going to go to a 1-8 but may stay with the 3-12 if seeing the barrel/suppressor is a possibility

When I was running the 1-6 PST I could see most of the suppressor at 1 power. With an 8.5”.

The reticle size on the second focal plane model is not a problem for my 63 year old eyes. For my tastes the reticle size is just fine on 1x.

They actually have 3 levels. SLX (China), GLX (Philippines) and PLX (Japan).

The model I posted was the GLX which is more comparable to PST. The SLX would be like the Strike Eagle.

I've been looking at LPVOs and I'm strongly considering the Arken EP-8, 1-8x28 LPVO FFP Illuminated KLBOX- 34mm. I've been working with a buddy's Arken EP-5 5-25X56 and I really like it. Turrets are accurate and repeatable, glass is reasonable, they claim Japanese but not as good as other Japanese glass have. With 25% discount you can get one for $375 but there's a 6 week wait. For the price I think it will be a winner.

That’s what I just ordered. It have friends in bed with Aroen so anything I want is discounted 100%. They gave me a EP5 a few weeks ago to go on a rifle they are building for me, it seems like a good scope for the price and hits way above its price point.

I have the 1-8 strike eagle and a 2.5 x 10 PST. The PST is better glass (or at least I have convinced myself it is). I have not had issues with the 1x8, it has been in a larue qd mount on several different rifles and right now is on a shorty 6.8. Is it the best glass, no, I use it a lot in the 1-4x zoom range. It does start to look crappy when zoomed all the way in, but with the exception of when I sited in, I don't think I have used it at 8x at all. Would I buy another one...prob not, eventually the one I have will prob get replaced with a Trijicon Credo in similar power range..the 1x is really nice at times. Like everything else there are better more expensive options...for what it is worth a primary arms glx series is prob worth a look as a budget option that bats a bit above its price point.

This, I have a Strike Eagle 1-8 and had the 1-6, but will be going with Arken as soon as they become more available.
