Are you the State of Texas? Have you been leasing it for DECADES while thousands of random people (mostly urban like yourself) enjoyed it?

Apples to Oranges.

the lease was 10% of total property, they had option to buy both previous lease and rest, they declined. It gets purchased on fair market and they try to ED ENTIRE property

Good...if the state wanted it they could've bought it just like the developer, ED should've never been a part of this situation...sad it was even considered.

It's not just a random piece of property. It's been a State Parks for decades. How can one be so dense as to compare this to Joe Smiths place next door.

nope a lease is a lease, so if you lease hunting to the state for walkin or draw program they own it now?

The TPW screwed this up! They had ample opportunity to save the park, has any explanation been communicated? Could it be they’re just stuck on dumb…….;)

Anyone that has paid attention knows that Texas, Parks and wildlife have had every right to buy that property before the developer, but they decided not to then there was an uproar and a couple state senators took off with it. This should have never gotten this far the state of Texas should’ve made their decision and lived with it.

Always more than happy to be on the opposite side of basically anything that a Dallas "person" says. Kind of backs up my point.

This Dallas person owns rural land in Hood County (It was rural when I bought it, not so much now), Rusk County, and Brewster County. Guess what? If I feel like developing any of it the government doesn't have a say.

IMO it coincided with the announcement of the state surplus money. The state didn't show much interest until they had money burning a hole in their pocket.

I grew up camping and fishing at Lake Fairfield so I have a soft spot for it and would love to see it preserved for future generations. Bottom line is the state didnt give a flying flip about the park when it was offered up for sale until someone actually bought it. At that point they felt cheated so they decided to steal it back from the rightful owners. Only problem is the rightful owners had some pretty good lawyers on their side and were able to squash the theft of their property.

Hate to see it chopped up and sold off as home sites but justice prevailed here. At least I was able to make one last trip out there with Dad before the gates were closed for good.

I’m happy with the results. I wouldn’t want the state to steal my land either.

Was your land a State Parks for the last 50 years? If not I wouldn't worry about it.

I live on a ranch and grew up 20 miles from any town. Try again.
