Went with Hornady Precision Hunter, 162 gr. ELDX. Since last year, really impressed with accuracy with my 3rd Tikka, this one is the RoughTech. I got it for my Mule deer hunting rig and had used it the day before for that purpose. It's such an easy rifle to carry so I left the .308, CTR behind this morning. Shot was quick, not a lot of time to select that perfect high shoulder placement so I went right to front shoulder, a little low. All my shots on bucks have been DRT for a very long time, but this one just seemed to die on his feet and fall straight down, no kick, flinch.......nothing. No exit, hit him quartering away and took out all the arteries immediately above and leading to the heart. I've left the brake on since the beginning, thing recoils like a pop gun. Nice to shoot. Shot the buck going away, to the right of the black dot. I've shot some big hogs with this as well, I'm liking it.

Only concern.............hearing protection. I don't want to wear any while hunting, never have before. When hunting with this rifle, I do wear custom passive hearing protection, same as if I'm on the range. I'm not sure if this brake will direct the noise back to the shooter in the same way the Little Bastard Brake does. I heard (literally) that one can be brutal without protection. I'd like to hunt with this RoughTech without hearing protection, but don't have the nerve to try that first shot.
Anyone hunt with a similar brake and pass on hearing protection?

I would pull the brake if you want to hunt without hearing protection. One shot from a box stand, or anything similar that will contain the sound, will devastate your hearing. That’s the only situation I would consider a suppressor.
The better Walker game ear electronic protection works very well. You can hear more with them than your can with nothing on at all.

But, it's hard for me to get a good cheek weld with them. The sound isn't contained at all, bore is way out the window.

I just wear these around my neck all the time and slip then on before I shoot.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Shot my APR beside both of his Tikkas that week... Pulled the trigger once, smiled and said "these f$%#$% Tikkas man".
Said it before, and I'll say it again. Should something happen to my "fleet", I'd replace with Tikkas.
Great buck again. Glad I was able to be a part of that one!!

Great buck again. Glad I was able to be a part of that one!! Yeah, to clarify we were sighting in a rifle and letting the barrel cool down. I just wanted to confirm zero on this 7mm Rem. Mag while we waited, sat down and drilled the dime sized zero dot. I get up, Reeder sits down, never shot the rifle before and boom, almost directly on top of my shot. I wasn't suprised.

Anyone hunt with a similar brake and pass on hearing protection? I did that once many years ago with a braked .30-06... that was also the last time I shot without hearing protection. It freakin' hurt. Since then I've worn either the Walker's or Howard Leights. I'll wear them during "prime time," or resting around my thigh for the rest of the sit. No issues getting a good cheek weld or sight picture. I'll even wear them when shooting suppressed. Won't hunt any other way now.

I actually forgot about giving my Walkers a go again after I got my cheek riser stock pack. Put them on, got on the gun here at home. No issues. I'd rather use nothing, but they work now that I have the cheek riser.

suppressors are worth the wait. Yessir, but many are still not hearing safe. Definitely WAY better, though. I love mine.
