I’m going to put another deer ground blind on the lower part of my ranch and I want it to last until I’m taking a dirt nap. I’m done with fiberglass exterior blinds. Anyone know of the best one for the money?

Ranch King and Atascosa seem to be solid metal blinds

I bought a steel blind about 7 years ago . It was a rail road switch station that a guy was selling . He had 4 of them . It’s about 5 ft by 6 ft . It has steel I beams on the ground with a 1/4 steel plate as a floor and all steel siding . It is heavy . Windows front and back and on one side. I move it with a tilt trailer . There is no movement inside due to the weight. Don’t know if you can find one of those . They were made for the RR. Might check the Internet. I paid about 800. For it then . It will be around long after I am gone .

I have a Ranchking I bought in 2009. Inside is still like brand new. Outside is just a little faded but that's it. Now I have 5 of them. They're not cheap, but probably the last blind you will ever buy.

I don't think I've ever seen a used one for sale.

To your question, no but......

For a ground blind that will last, I would use Hardi Board and several coats of good paint. All treated wood frame/1" floor/stand on concrete blocks/liquid nails in all joints with screws. Tar & tin the roof with extra overlap and silicone & use good windows. Heavy, well built, tight & dry, and the woodpeckers won't kill it. Water & woodpeckers kill blinds down here, and of course the sun. Have built a lot of deer blinds and I take pride in building one that will last for decades, but it costs more and most folks don't want to go that route. If I was a retired old fart like you, I'd spend the money.

I did like Skinnerback, with sturdy long lasting wooden blinds, though I use T-111 siding. I do have one blind by Redneck Blinds. It’s fiberglass, and I guess I’ve had it 10 years with zero issues.

Years ago I had some metal blinds that a buddy and I made. I guess they will last forever, but they were loud if you touched the metal. Insulation would have fixed that I guess.

I bought a blind 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. Designed and built by a longtime deer hunter. Metal framed and skinned with a metal siding. Then painted with what I would describe almost a bed liner material. Inside is like a hardiback sheeting. You have options to have it insulated or non insulated. Which insulated is essentially wall to wall carpet. Windows are great similar to deerview. Built in front shelf and cup holders mounted/welded to both sides.

The frame is bolt together and took us less than 30 minutes to erect and set the blind. Very well thought out design overall including extra braces to the ground for stability. I didn’t bother anchoring mine for that reason.

I bought it at Keith’s hardware in Brady. The builder is in Waco area but sells to various stores. He cannot keep up with demand as I never see more than one staged. I would call the store and check availability. I saved good money and probably have a better blind that going with a Name brand.

I had a Ranch King. it was very well built. Like 603 said, if it's not insulated then you should add that. It was difficult to move arounf in without making noise. It was also quite hot in the summer. I had also built one on a small trailer. Used treated 2x4's and painted with oil base exterior paint. It was solid, not as hot as the metal Ranch King. I think Ranch King may have an insulated model. Like Skinner said, you're retired, build one.

Edit to add. Metal blinds will pop from expansion. I'm sure animals get used to it, but it something I could have done without. Annoying.

To just buy. I have more than enough to do around the ranch without adding another build project.

I have a repurposed and modified fiberglass underground gasoline tank as a well house. When I bought it, they also had some that had been re purposed as deer blinds. Always have wished that I had bought one. They’re forever.

Tank blinds are nice and you can customize them. They are In weatherford. Little pricey.

I have one of these. They are nice. 'Wish they had a passive vent, like ASF blinds, but it's okay. 'Hope he's doing well.
