Years ago we were all setting around the lease, discussing what we had seen or killed as most hunters do. We had a fella we called "pops" on the lease and when they got around to me he ask what I had seen. I said I'd seen a few eights and a nice nine with a crab claw on each side, Pop's ask why I had not shot it. I simply told him that it didn't make my heart go pitter patter.
Well Saturday morning at nine o'clock in the morning I look up and at the edge of a field I see this deer at 125 yards. I think I know that deer but but pick up my binoculars for verification. One glance, he not the eight, my heart goes pitter, I lower the binoculars pick up the rifle chamber a round in one motion. I place the cross hairs slightly behind the shoulder and pull the trigger. I watch him go into the tree line and believe I see him go down. I know he's the best deer I've ever seen on the hoof not to mention that I'd shot. By this time my heart had gone from just a pitter to a full blown pitter pater. I sat there for fifteen minutes before leaving the blind. I finally got out walked up to where he had stood and looked into the trees, and there he laid. All I could say then, and alI can say now is Thank You Lord! He may not be the biggest, the widest and so on but with sixteen points and double kickers is the best I'd ever seen must less shot. Thank you Lord for making my heart go pitter patter and adding one helluva memory.

Well, there really wasn't time for pressure. Once I saw what he had everything went into autopilot and it wasn't' till after the shot that I started getting nervous, and while it's been two years since I quit smoking, I never wanted a cigarette more than during the fifteen minutes I sat there, I didn't though of course.
