Local ground and packaged wagyu beef. $6.99/lb. Just had to try them, and it was worth it - great flavor and juice!! Boiled some steak fry wedges for 10 minutes, then baked for 30 more to crisp them up. Nice burger dinner in the RV.

No comparison when matching steaks. While it was an excellent burger, and only a dollar more than the deli price for 93% lean, I believe the cheaper regular 80/20 has better flavor and smash burgers char better. I would go back to regular ground beef, and add two more pieces of bacon!!! smile

If wagyu beef is higher fat is there really a difference between wagyu and 80/20 or 70/30 grinds?

Not sure on burgers; but as a steak, it’s about as marbled as you can get, it’s almost strange, like you’re eating butter. $39 a pound typically.

Had some wag yoo spen siv beef a while back in a Here's-a-care-package-you-greybearded-fart-you package

Just me- it was more squishy than a I care for my meat product to be.
Just about like a soft beef flavored spam.
I'm content with the cheap fatty hamburger patties cooked as a
hamburger steak myself if I want something similar. I still have a
couple of teeth left, so I'll stick to the stringy stuff for now

When we are at my folks they have a monster H‑E‑B that stocks wagyu steaks. Picked up some incredibly marbled sirloins for same price as a cab ribeye. They were great. Never tried the ground heck I haven’t bought ground beef in I don’t know how long.

It is a forgiving steak; you can run over, and the marbling will prevent overcooking.

My HEB used to get waygu london broils in last year for $6.99 a pound. Super tender and would rival just about any prime ribeye out there. I've had a good bit of wagyu, wifes family buys a whole wagyu for butcher a year and gives us a quarter, but its not cheap. I never figured out why the london broils were so cheap. I would just buy a few pounds every time they were available. Haven't seen them again in about a year.

But in terms of ground I prefer regular chuck. Makes for a better bite and cheaper. Steaks are not even comparable though. A good wagyu wins every time. London broil for reference. [Linked Image]
