Have you ever cooked Pompano? Any good?

If so how would you cook?

Absolutely. Lots of them in the surf at certain times of the year and fun to catch on light tackle, one of the best eating fish out there IMO.

You can cook them however you like (fried is always good) but like Spanish Mackerel I like them best either blackened or pan seared.

Delicious fish, not many people have eaten them compared to the big three, but I’d take a couple nice big pomp’s over a few trout for sure.

Pompano is at the top of my list when talking about good eating. Lived in Corpus Christi 2020-2022 and caught a ton of Pompano out on Padre Island National Seashore. I like the fillets blackened in a cast iron skillet.

Pomps are at the top of my list of good eating fish.

I caught 1 many years ago, South Padre. I was surf fishing early morning, and really just catching whiting. It was just me and the guy grooming the beach on the tractor. That thing hit and I knew I had something different. The guy on the tractor stopped behind me, turned off his tractor and started watching me reel it in. I turned around and told him "I have no idea what this is" and he said "It's a pompano". It made my trip catching that fish, wish I took a picture of it.
