Just not on pigs. We were able to release him unharmed.

Have seen that so many times that I am surprised TP&W has not outlawed having a top on hog traps. Most deer end up with a broken nose if they are lucky, and a broken neck if they are unlucky.

In Louisiana there must be an opening in the top at least 22” X 22” or 25” in diameter. Interesting size but at least there is a way out.

Can't imagine that was fun to release - but big props for getting him out of there unharmed.

In Louisiana there must be an opening in the top at least 22” X 22” or 25” in diameter. Interesting size but at least there is a way out. 'Learned something today. I've caught plenty of deer, many times with bait so sour you wouldn't think they'd go near it. I have one box trap that I bought years ago that is the perfect height. After I cut the top out except the outer ring of panel, deer always got out. 'Had a welder come out and look at it. 'Told him I wanted two more just like it. He built two a few inches taller. Focus issues. In those two, some jump out, some won't, and some don't get "inspired" to jump until I drive up. My next try is gonna be the rooter door traps that Tractor Supply carries. Deer won't push up that door...I hope. I've heard good reports about them. Cell gates on my 3 corrals are my last resort. $$$

I think we were lucky that my wife in the blind right next to the trap and heard the door slam. We were texting the whole time and I was just a few minutes away. He was only in the trap for about 20 minutes and when I walked up he wasn't too worried about being there. He was just standing there eating the corn! I tried to act calm but move quickly to get the door opened and then I had move around to the other side so he would move toward the opening.

Nice release, but he probably won’t be back for awhile. Need a few more years anyway.

I’ve had more than one rodeo releasing a deer in pig traps. Found those hog attractants brought just as many deer as hogs in. Stopped using them and no more deer.

A few years ago I posted the story about the bull in my brother's roofed hog trap! Now that was something to see!
