Once upon a time I had a straight razor that my Great Grandpa picked up off the battlefield in France during WW1. I kept it up on a little shelf on my wall. Unfortunately it "disappeared" during a divorce. I don't know if it was French or German, but sure wish I still had it.
It looked a lot like the one you have there on the top right, but the handle was a little more yellow colored.
I've used all of those "cutthroat " razors for daily shaving before I was debilitated and got too shaky. That reminded me about another "german" hiding behind the bathroom door
Then of course, the other necessary accoutrements The right lower is my maternal grandpa's from the late 1800's-early 1900's thereabouts The topmost is still my daily user ( sans straight razor) It's the only one with a marking ( "ENGLAND ") on the bottom. Came from an estate sale IIRC
Had a Hunter's Pal that I gifted to my nephew a couple of years ago. Did have a semi rare Eye Brand version of a White Hunter that I let go some years ago, and should have kept. It would have brought 5 times as much today as what I thought was a good price then
One last doo dad while the shaving pandora's box of crap is open Kriss Kross razor blade sharpener (from the 20's?) from the same grandpa. I once had a Rolls Razor also ( if you've ever heard of that) that some pinheads stole during a break in. The poeleece found it and a couple of other items, but apparently the foggy-brained dipsh*ts thought it was supposed to be a joint rolling machine and destroyed it trying to make it work to roll with. Neither of the gadgets are worth much monetarily, but more so a sentimental notion of that grandpa
Yessir. The Eye Brand are getting scarce. They can be found here and there new, but they're pretty pricey. Those "sodbusters" are about 70 dollars for the plain and the locking blades are right at a hundred.
Speaking of scarce. Just below the s-busters there is an Eye Brand ivory micarta and nickel silver locking folder, and a smaller Eye Brand gen. stag and nickel locking folder. Those are the only ones like that I've ever seen anywhere in person. Anybody else ever saw any of those?
I wore out several eye brand sod busters fleshing capes and hides when I was a taxidermist. Blades were half as wide when new. Eye Brand had a period of poor quality sod busters when they switched from brass liners to steel. Once water got under the scales, the liners began to corrode, pushing the scales off. Sadly, I have had to switch other brands. I still have a few Eye Brands...sodbuster and a few butcher knives.
