Morning all. All my 1997 travel trailer’s inside lights have started flickering. Never happened before. Everything else is working properly. Power from the pole, no batteries. I replaced the inverter 4/5 years ago. Any ideas?

Sounds like it MAY be the inverter again, at least that's been my experience with flickering RV lights. As Poppa mentioned, put a meter on the input & output. When you test the DC output, keep your meter on it for a little bit & see if it fluctuates under a load (lights & everything on). I'd start there.

Too much load on the inverter output will also cause this as well. Can be caused by shorted/partially shorted wiring or bulbs. Turn off all your DC circuits, turn them back on one at a time, and watch your DC voltage draw on the inverter.

How long have you had the batteries out? A converter works harder when there aren't batteries and will burn out quicker. Lights are typically the only thing 12v.

X2. The battery acts as a buffer and eliminates power surges.

I’ve never had any batteries in the 9/10 years I’ve had the trailer. Been hooked to the pole at the lease the entire time. I’ll check the inverter in a bit. No new/extra load when this started.

When I've seen this with trailers that didn't have batteries installed, it was the inverter going bad. Thankfully they're fairly inexpensive and pretty easy to replace.

This is a 60A one, but they sell ones that range between 45A and 80A.

I don’t have a meter with me but the inverter fan isn’t working, so like you guys, I’m pretty sure that’s it. I’ll get another before my next trip out here. Thanks everyone.

You don’t need a converter/ charger just buy a 110v to 12v converter wire in the same just don’t wire in the battery wires
