Anyone hunt with one? Thinking about getting an x-bolt chambered in 7mm-08.

Quite a few here hunt with the 708. I have been hunting with one since 1982 and though I have several others it is still one of my favorites. Over 75 deer killed with that one and all but 2 the shooter watched them fall, those 2 were not so good shots, shooters fault not the gun or round.

Yes, I used one on a regular basis since 1994. I load 150 Nos BT's at 2840 FPS, performance has been great on Deer and Hogs.

My wife and both kids shoot one. One of the best calibers there is.

Wife has killed Kudu, Zebra and Nyala with hers.

Have and hunt with one. While I do like it quite a lot in the realm of medium sized hunting it’s going to be difficult to notice much difference in it and say a 308, 270, 30-06, 2506, creedmore etc.

There are no flies on the 7mm-08. Load up with 120 gr/140 gr BTs and go hunt. If going for elk size critters use 120 gr/140 gr TTSX and put meat in the freezer.

I'm a big fan of the 7mm08 and it's one of the few sub 30cal calibers I like. It worked well yesterday morning with our new Lehigh 135gr Tipped Xtreme Chaos, 125yd shot DRT

Agreed. Imo there are 3 classes……22-.24 calibers,.25-.30 calibers and .33 to around .375. Anything over that is for truly dangerous game.

All calibers within each group produce similar results

If there is such a thing as a perfect deer cartridge, 7-08 is among them. You will like it.

It’s about as good as you can get from a 308 case with hand loading at longer range. If you don’t hand load, get a 308 or 6.5 gaymoor.

Couldn't agree more. I've been using it for quite a few years now. I like it even more now that I chopped the barrel to 18" and added a suppressor.

Agreed. Absolutely my 'go to' rifle for Whitetail Deer.

Plenty of power and range....very mild recoil.

7mm-08 is just right!

I load a 140 gr. for it (for deer, coyote, etc) and step up a bit to a 160 gr. bullet for hogs.

Cool good to know. I don’t reload. Thinking about some Nosler Ballistic Tips 140 GR for ammo.

Do it!

7-08 is my favorite SA caliber. IMO, it’s everything .308 Win wishes it could be. My Bergara with hand loads is a .3 moa rifle.

So, I’ve got one in a weatherby. If I was in the market for a can for it what would you guys recommend?

Been shooting my 7mm Rem-Mag for years. My buddy hunting in the stand next to me dropped a nice 11pt with his 7-08 on Saturday morning. Good stuff.

I've never owned or even shot a 7mm-08, but I've always wanted one. I've got a brand new never fired Tikka T3 Featherlight 243 that has lived in my safe for years, need to do something with it. Have several 243's already. Thinking about making her a 7mm-08 and getting rid of that ugly Tikka stock with a Boyd's, someday.....

That would be a sweet rig.

My 7-08 has the Remington laminate stock like a Boyds, It has long been my favorite.

If Tikka offered it in the CTR, I wouldn’t have any Creedmoors in the safe.

My "go-to" rifle for the past 30 years has been a 7mm08. Also bought one for the kids.

Factory ammunition is not as easy to come by these days (but I've always hand loaded for mine).

I have two 7-08's. One is a TC encore and the other a Wilson AR-10. I really like them both. It is a great caliber for the typical hunting situation. I am however more drawn to more modern calibers with higher BC bullets for long range applications.

^ Agreed. Under 300 yards, I like the .308. Over 300 yards, 7mm PRC.

7-08's not bad, and I used to own one. I think the .308 hits harder and I didn't see a notable difference in recoil, so under 300 yards that's my pick.

Also, consider ammo availability if you don't handload. 7-08 is harder to find on the shelf, at least for me.
