Anybody use this in 9mm? I had avoided it because of it being listed as a fast powder, like right near Titegroup, but have been reading up on it and have found several sources saying its really a medium-slow powder, closer to Accurate 5, HS-6, and CFE Pistol. Some folks use it to make major without serious pressure signs which tells me its really slower in that application. I know that charts are relative but that would indicate a considerable difference in placement in the charts.

Some folks say it's WAP with flash suppressant and high temp coatings. Others say you need to run it towards the higher end of the loading range to get clean burns. Some of the load data looks promising and appears to show it is indeed a slower powder. Looking for folks experience loading this in 9mm and even .45 auto.

Thanks.

My favorite 9mm powder. With jacketed 124 grain bullets I load an upper mid range charge. They burn pretty clean but not N320 clean. With cast 124’s I load a fairly light charge for 1130 fps and it burns clean as a whistle. 9mm is the only thing Ive loaded with it though.

My take on it is it makes good velocities but you can beat it, burns cleaner than most, and has been the most accurate in 9mm for me. I like it!

So back to this thread, I had avoided this powder since it was relatively fast, next to Titegroup in the 2022 burn rate chart at #17 but I was just looking at the latest chart on Hodgdon's website and it now shows at #46 right next to CFE Pistol which make more sense based on the load data.

Holy smokeless powder Batman, this seems like quite the change in charts. I have never seen a powder reclassified by that much! So back to my previous comment, it sure acts like a slower powder seems to be verified. But now it makes me want to try it more. I still have close to 1000 rounds loaded with AA#7 but was going to look for something slightly faster for the short barrel 9mm. I have a lb of Accurate #5 I was going to play with but this might be the direction I go based on other comments I have seen online. Heck, it might even be a good Unique replacement.

When I acquired a 10mm and asked about powder for it, someone suggested Silhouette and I bought some. Dissatisfied, I went with Longshot which the majority suggested to begin with, so I had several pounds of Silhouette on the shelf with no specific purpose. When I decided to begin loading 9mm just a few weeks ago, all my searching through loading data pointed to it as a very good choice and the best from among the array of powders I keep on the shelf. When I tried it I was happy with it.

RR, not to hijack my own thread, but I think Silhouette might work well in the 10mm with lighter bullets ( I have several boxes of the Nosler 135 JHP ) but I already worked up loads with Longshot and AA #7 for the 10mm. I tried AA #9 in the 10 with 180 gr bullets but I just felt it was a bit slow. The other powder that was recommended a lot for the 10MM was Blue Dot but the flash was excessive in my opinion.

I am looking forward to playing with Silhouette. I have some 147gr Speer G2 Gold Dots that I got cheap a while back that I may try it with. Probably going to start with some 124 gr JHP. I have about 6-700 pieces of brass waiting to be loaded up.
