My yard man said it was last mow of the year this week, he cut the grass shorter

I also turned my sprinkler system off until next year, Grass in the area was suprisingly green most of the year, we got the right rains at the right times.

I'll probably need to mow leaves 3 times in the next 2 months. What sucks is I don't own a tree. Every leaf in the neighborhood is drawn to our yard.

I`ll probably mow mine one more time after it goes dormant from frost. I like a clean cut for the winter. I will still have to mow around the shop and pasture in a few weeks also with these warm days.

Apologies to my neighbors, but I'm done as well.

I'll need to mow at least through December if not January. No sprinkler system here. Mother Nature is my sprinkler system.

Same here. My last mowing (Usually about Dec. 1st) will take care of the yard. But there will still be pasture to mow if warm weather persists.

Mowed 8 hours yesterday (pasture) and another 3.5 hrs today.

I will still have to mow a few more times once the leaves fall.

Pass the gravy.

I also shut down my sprinklers and need one more mow.

Do y'all drain your sprinkler system in the winter? I have never done it in town but I'm concerned the installer didn't get the system deep enough at the farm.

I have never heard of any one doing this in our area, maybe up north where it gets crazy cold for a long time

Wouldn't you have to hook up a compressor and blow out water if you really wanted to get rid of the water in a sprinkler system

I have never seen or heard of sprinkler system freezing and causing issues in Texas for a one buried in the ground

I have seen many fire suppression sprinkler systems freeze and split on commerical and residential but all those were outside a building or in a attic and it had to get record low for a long time.

Im mowing today for the last time. We had two killing frosts this week, and things are already going dormant. I will also drain my sprinklers, and cover hose bibs.

How do you drain your sprinklers? Explain?

When I installed my system. I put a valve box at the end of each zone that houses a ball valve for a draining the lowest spot. So when I do this, I open five valves and then twist each electric valve solenoid a quarter turn to manually open valves the controller operates when watering. I also put a 1.5" hex union at the discharge of the pump, so I unscrew it and just put my leaf blower over it and blow the pipes dry. It is about a 10 minute job. It is normally overkill to do all this, but I am confident that it saved me from repairs in 2021 and 2022. With the pipes being 12" deep and sitting in single digit temps for three days, I'm sure it would have frozen somewhere in the system. I saw posts and pics of multiple people with broken systems after those freezes.

It’s Zeon Zoysia. Had it installed 3 years ago. Love it. I just need to level my yard to my reel mower will not gouge it.

It will be upper 80’s this week, so I’ll still be watering. Our yard guys will probably mow once or twice this month and then they disappear till March or so. With all the Christmas stuff in the subdivisions, they don’t even try to mow in December.

Thanks,
Rich
