A project almost completed.
TC Encore, 500 S&W. Layout paint is still on barrel.
We were cutting regular stock blanks to make Contender and Encore stocks. This one was nearly black on exterior from oxidation (been on rack since’60s). As I started cutting the sawdust is bright yellow! Rats, cut too far for a bolt gun stock. So I called dibs and made an Encore. Tough as mother in law’s heart.
9 1/2 pounds.

Holy barrel length!!!

What kind of speeds are you expecting from that barrel and the 500S&W?

I’m wanting an Encore for a 460XVR, but going to stay at 16 inches.

I plugged in a Hornady 350-grain XTP with a 32-inch barrel. Top velocity results are over 2500 fps. I know that's just a calculation and based on a guess at the barrel length, but eek2 !

I thought it would be faster. My 460XVR slings 315’s at 2100fps from a revolver

Barrel is 24”
I wanted it a little longer than the wood so no flame damage

I have practical guns.
Now I mostly make interesting guns, just started a 9.3x72 (the skinny one) on a Contender rifle length . Going for a rook gun/stalking rifle feel.

Love me some Osage Orange. Have plenty on my place and it's hard as a rock.
Pretty stock & gun.

I make quite a few predator calls out of old Osage Orange fenceposts. The ones I use have been in the ground for 75-100 years. Some are still yellow inside, some have turned a deep chocolate brown all the way through, some are a mottled mix of both colors.. The wood turns really nice and makes beautiful, great sounding calls. I love it. Under appreciated wood IMO.
