I’m looking for a new thermal since my craptacular FLIR PTS536 decided to die while sitting completely motionless in a climate-controlled location.
Contacting FLIR resulted in a nicely worded ESAD response so now I’m left with a 4K$ paperweight.
That being settled, the need for a replacement thermal is nigh.
Most of my hog-hunting is from blinds, with shots commonly 175+ yards. So 3-4x native resolution works best for me.
I’m not spending as much as last time, nor do I want to buy a scope from a company that is likely to vaporize in the next 5 years.
Looking at the AGM Adder TS50-384 or the Infiray Outdoor RICO RL42 384 MK1. Both seem to fit my needs- but which is more likely to last, and in the unfortunate situation where it needs servicing- which company is more likely to still be around?

I'm a Pulsar fan myself. They are in Mansfield if you ever have an issue.

I would go with InfiRay over AGM, but you will pay a bit of a premium for the InfiRay. I think the InfiRays are a better product. However, I think AGMs are a better value for the money. Price goes up at a faster rate than quality.

The two I listed are shown as the same price now. That’s what has me wondering why the price has dropped on the Rico. I guess it’s being phased out by a newer model.
Appreciate the input- I don’t want to get “stuck” with another paperweight this time if I can help it….

Thank you so much!

TX_LT230FH, feel free to give us a call. We'll be happy to help. There are a lot of good optics on the market these days and the good news is that both AGM and Infiray have a 5 year warranty. Pulsar has a 3 year warranty. All these companies are very good to work with and make quality optics. Once you're outside of the warranty period there are never any guarantees but at least within the warranty you have some piece of mind.

Feel free to give us a call if you'd like and we'll be happy to discuss the optics with you and see what's out there that would fit your budget and your needs. We'd love to have your business. Call us anytime (877)350-1818

I got the rattler ts25-384. Like it but when I updated software the menu disappeared. When in use it kept videoing until button pushed. I updated to newest and fixed problem(? haven't used it since). They also changed the magnification, base is 1.5. Mag is basically clipping a smaller part of thermal pic. so resolution sucks past 4x. Resolution gets real grainy. Target was about 75 yds away.

Magnification goes 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x? Then yeah, magnification is going to suck past 4x. You quarter the number of pixels used every time you double the magnification. So at 8x, you are 1/4 of 1/4 of 1/4 of 384 resolution.

With that said, what did AGM has to say when you contacted them about the menu disappearing and such?

They had a new download (to fix lost menu) and it worked - so far - I haven't really checked everything as I just did the change yesterday. Funny, I was recording mp4s and pics when it was turned on, press the button and 'saved'. Actually mag. changed to 1.5 and doubles each click.
Got this maybe june this yr. On BO pistol first, missed hogs as boresight is NOT same for all reticles (why?). Next time on carbine, barely missed hog at 100 yds. Updated and last weekend, menu was gone. new update yesterday. No real problem updating, download, unzip and copy to rattler. Wish there guys would make an app to allow all setup through cell phone/computer like I can do with my Fender guitar amp. Don't really need to be fumbling with buttons out in the field. Turn it on, change mag. and take mp4 or pics is really all that is needed. I'm guessing a 640 res would double the effective magnification. Too much $ for me.

Interesting you say the native magnification is changed to 1.5x. That is all it ever was. https://www.agmglobalvision.com/agm-rattler-ts25-384.

The boresight is the same for all reticles? So if you go into the reticle menu, the actual reticle selection, and change it, the reticle moves on the screen? I would have to see a video of that. My guess is that you aren't changing what you think you are changing.

Screen shot shows 1x. No, you get to change each reticle for bore sight. If I were to design an IR scope I'd make all the setup through cell pone app. Dump all the internal memory and extra buttons, get extra battery life. Use increased computing power to fake better resolution. Anyone buying a 3-5K$ scope already has a phone. Can turn on pics, video, color. etc from phone in the field if needed. Scopes already have wifi, easy to add bluetooth, either can be enabled from switch or power button.
