All indications are that the rut here (Limestone County) is either on or just about on. The bucks are sniffing around in the daylight. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the older and very nice antlered bucks are nocturnal still. Hopefully that will change soon. The old 11 point better be careful.

I literally had to stop in the middle of the road on my way home last night, right at last light. A very mature buck was standing still in the middle of road with his nose on the pavement, trying to find which way doe had gone. He was very very dark colored to. It`s happening already.

I hunted Freestone county this past weekend, watched a 4.5 y/o 10 point breed a doe 5-6 times over about an hour Sat. morning. Sunday morning a young 8 point came hauling into my area, sniffing like crazy and busted out heading south on a mission ... which was weird since the wind was out of the north

The rut pretty much happens at the same tome every year. Where i hunt its the second week of november. I have seen some young bucks chasing and sniffing, and this westher will have bucks out, but its not yet time where i am at

Posted in another thread, I had two mature bucks locked up with does Saturday in Mills county. It's definitely kicking off and this cold front will really get them moving. Already have 4 new bucks on camera that hadn't been seen before this weekend, and one old stud that has returned after 5 weeks.

Bucks will breed or follow any estrous Doe from the time the buck has a hardened antler (usually Sept). I have lots of bucks 'checking' the Does right now (in my area) but I would not say that the rut in 'On'. Typically the first and second week in November (here) is the peak of the rut.
