Is there any reason a company may push an HSA high deductible account vs ppo?

That’s 100% true, I used to be friends with my former HR lady

HSA’s are cheaper for the company and that’s why they push them on employees

If a company is pushing it then it’s likely not good for you.

HSA's have tax benefits, and keeps your monthly cost lower. I use an HSA with high deductible plan....saves me about 12k per year. Generally, the main way a PPO can benefit you is if you meet your deductible every year or your family has a lot of health issues.

The money you put into an HSA is a tax deduction, can be invested, and grows tax free as long as it's used for qualifying medical expenses.

Same situation for me. Plus, your HSA is a piggy bank for when you’re retired — it doesn’t leave you every year like a FSA. If you regularly hit your deductible and max OOP, then maybe it’s not the right choice for you

Going through this right now. You should see the costs involved.

I'd MUCH rather have a high deduct HSA than the PPO/HMO we have. I pay through the nose for health insurance but never go to the doctor.

Pass the gravy.

My health insurance pricing is great I was just wondering the HSA push. I'm thinking there is some tax break

For employer's and employee's that don't use their health insurance a lot, it's far cheaper to go high deductible/HSA. If you're like me and hit your family out of pocket maximum every year, you have to look at the final numbers between the two types of plans. At open enrollment, I've had years where some of the HSA programs were more expensive then their HMO/PPO counterparts; and I've had years when they would have been cheaper. When the government reduced the maximum amount you could put in an FSA account, it tilted the deck towards the HSA's and not the PPO's. That's been my main beef with HSA cards vs FSA cards. With FSA, I get the money on my card on January 1. With HSA, I'm paying a bunch out of pocket expenses and it seems like I'm always playing catchup or trying to get DR's to hold off on bills until my HSA account gets some money in it. Since the company is funding them upfront, I can see why companies don't like large FSA accounts.

Thanks,
Rich
