I’m building a handful of 55gal drum feeders for our lease. Any suggestions on the best and most affordable place to get legs for it. Square or round tubing.

If you can weld, build you some cradles.

Are you buying a kit for the legs to slip over? I'd get the band that wraps around the barrel and bolts to close tightly around the bottom. There will be three angled pieces about 12" long for your legs to slip over. Electrical conduit will work for legs. Place t posts against the legs and use your driver to get them driven in at the same angle as the leg so the t post is in full contact with the leg. Wire the t posts with bailing wire as tight as you can top, middle and bottom.

Boss Buck Tripod Header is what I use now, I buy 1 5/8 pipe legs from a steel supply near my house. I build hangers out of 1.5" angle iron and buy a cheap hand winch from Harbor Freight.

Anyone not using stand and fill style feeders is younger than me. Im done with winches and ladders.

oh I would be on your band wagon if I could afford converting over to stand and fill ... but maintaining 14+ feeders at 3 different locations is just too cost prohibited for my budget (per my wife )

Boss Buck Tripod Header (online), 1 5/8" fencing posts (big-box chain link fence area), winch (harbor freight), drum hanger (scrapyard or a deer hanger in a pinch), old 55 gal drum (scrapyard), inner funnel (online), feeder/timer of choice (online), t-post supports (scrapyard). You can easily build one for under 200 for sure.

PMK, understand completely. It took me almost 70 years to scrounge up enough money to convert to stand and fill. But for a guy just starting out, they aren’t much more expensive(if any).

yep, if I was starting from scratch, the stand & fill would definitely be the path to go. I have to almost laugh at how much time & money I spend keeping this many feeders running like they should ... seems like every time I go out to any of my ranches, something is broken, not working, needs attention, etc.

Had my 20 year old Sweeney put on a custom built stand & fill with skids about 8 years ago. Moved it last week. Hooked onto it & drug it about 40 feet while it was full. Easy as could be.

Bigdad as someone who used to build winch feeders for years do yourself a favor get rid of the harbor frieght winch and get a Dutton Lainson BRAKE WINCH. inch feeders are great butif your hand slips and that mickey mouse claw doesn't catch you could be in for a world of hurt.
