First and foremost want to give a big shout out to Chris (P_102) he gave me a single shot bolt gun for a trainer for Colt to learn on. Just out of the goodness of his heart. Much appreciated sir!

Took Colt out this morning for his first shots. We shot a lot with the Remington to get his bearings. After about 20-25 rounds he was ready to shoot something else. I had bought him a Ruger 22 Wrangler off a forum member, thanks Todd, and he can’t hold it very well just yet by himself so I had to help with that especially it being single action. Moved up to my 1911/22 suppressed which he loves because he hates wearing ears. He loved it until he took a hot brass to the lip lol.

Then moved him up to my competition 10/22 and got it sighted at 50 yards on bags but let him run through 10 rounds pulling trigger by himself and he never got off target. He really enjoyed that. He already wants to go shooting again this evening.

He even shot my 9mm 1911 with me holding his hands around it. But recoil didn’t bother him at all.

Yes sir! Lots of fun times ahead. Can’t wait until he starts shooting competition with me. He still has a ways to go but it’s coming soon.

That is awesome.

Those first shots you take as a little kid make a big impression and stay in your memory for a long, long time. Looks like you got him off to a great start...all I got to do when I was about four years old was pull the trigger on my grandad's Woodsman a few times, but that sure stuck with me. The boy's gonna want some more guns before you know it!

Started my grandson with a single shot 22. After awhile, he stepped up to Grandma’s 222. That worked ok. So, at 8 yoa he got a pig. He was pumped. We butchered it. A week later, he shot a forked horn(4 point) buck. That really got him going. He first called Grandma and told her to come see his buck. Next call to parents.

I got him to hand load his own ammo and he really liked that. Told everybody at school and I got a call from the Principal asking if it was safe. We talked about it and he told me that he was also a hand loader and had put off teaching hid son. We talked about it and parted.

He hunted for quite a few years. Now, at 23 yoa, he is married and hooked on video games and will probably hunt a couple of times per year. Damn shame.

I completely agree. He’ll be grown and gone before you know it. My youngest just turned 25!

Making great memories dad…👍👍

Nice! My son started shooting similarly, an old stevens single shot, then the bolt, then the 10/22 at about the same age. He is 20 now, and always looks forward to coming home from college and shooting and hunting. Your son and mine share the same first name. Keep him interested.

He will teach his son the same way you teach him. You'll be a grandpa some day and get to watch. It does go fast but I know you will always make the time.

Great minds up I’ll do everything I can to keep him interested. I love shooting sports and heavily believe if a kid is taught gun safety as a child it’ll be ingrained in them for the rest of their lives.

Me or Wizzade. They are learning now but not to that level. 1 year makes a big difference it seems.

A year definitely makes a difference. I got 2 kids on Colts flag football team that about a year older than the rest. They’re soooo far ahead of the other kids. I could play all the teams so far with those 2 kids 2 on 7 and would still be undefeated.

Oddly though I’ve noticed in Jiu Jitsu it doesn’t really matter the age. There are little 6 year old girls that have been doing it for 2 years and will absolutely destroy boys twice their size that have only been there a couple of months.

This kid is 2 years older than Colt and Colt is about 3/4 his size and Colt whoops his butt every time. He has his first Jiu Jitsu competition in November.

Proud of him, and proud of you too, dad.
I still remember those first shots with a .22 something like 63 years ago ...
