That's pretty cool. I once saw a Texas Indigo Snakes eating a rattlesnake near Raymondville, which was incredible to see.

Pretty snake. I hate to see a horned toad go, though.

Great pictures!

Is it a horny toad or a spiny lizard? The markings on the tail look more like the spiny lizard to me. Can't see much of it though, ha!

It’s a Horny Toad. Seeing tons of them about the size of a half dollar. There is really nothing there for size reference but that’s a pretty small snake and the tail of that toad is maybe an inch long.

I'm glad you said that. I was intially thinking it could be one of these guys, but the tail, while longish for a toad, is way too short, even if broken off. RIP, Mr. Toad!

I used to see horny toads everywhere on my place South of Bowie. Then we got a 4 year drought that clobbered a lot of wildlife. Also had rattle snakes. All gone. I don’t miss the ticks and chiggers that I had.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Awesome action shot - thanks for posting.
Pretty rare to stumble across this. Glad you were able to capture it.
