Just like any other hairstyle, they are only smell/nasty if they are not properly maintained. I know people that take care of their dreads properly and they do not smell and are not nasty. Just like not everyone with a long bushy beard has last week's dinner crumbs buried in the mass. The people I know that wear them do so for cultural reasons, primarily.

I started growing them, mine were about 4-5 inches long, I would go weeks without washing them except for spray in shampoo. I never wanted to go the with the fake extensions like so many people do while growing them out. They got cut off when I excepted a promotion.

You do get judged heavily, or at least I did. I got kicked out of a hotel in Vegas of all places because they did not believe I had a room their despite having a room key and the credit card used to purchase the room along with my DL that matched the name on the CC.

There's two guys on Ruger Forum dot com that make posts related to others' looks at least once a month. It's annoying...as annoying to me as "abnormal" dress is to them. Fail topic.

Pass the gravy.

I see alot of black woman with fake dread locks, it seems to be the going thing

I think they use yarn or something similiar to replicate real hair

Personally I am not a fan of them.

Not a fan of them. I did enjoy watching a video of a dude getting tackled by his dreadlocks. They can't be as nasty as that afro sheen stuff. My brother worked remodel construction in Austin for a while and was always complaining when he encountered that suff on walls.

I've always thought the same thing. Filthy is the word that comes to mind.
