I went through this with my Dad on Fathers day last year. Went in the hospital on Saturday around noon, they told us he would pass within the next day.
Sunday they gave him a shot to relax/go to sleep around 4:45 pm and he was gone in less than an hour, i was holding his hand. He was retired but
worked hard on projects up until the last week of his life. He never complained over a three year period and did a lot to be prepared, have his family prepared.
Some things he did i didn't realize until thinking about them after he was gone.

I have nothing but respect for how Louise went out.

Sad to hear this. She had a beautiful smile and from what I hear, a very kind heart.

How did they know today was her last day? I seen the posts on social media and she looked thin but good considering the cancer. Were the pictures taken before yesterday?

From what I've seen, this is euthanasia. Don't know that, haven't seen it said, but that's my conclusion. I follow Jim and Eva but neither has used the word that I've seen.

Pretty sure she chose MAID, medical assistance in dying. I know it's not technically legal in the US but I have no problems with terminal patients choosing not to suffer any more.

I watched my first wife die in Hospice from leukemia. We were both 25. It was slow, but quick at the same time. Not once did this decision ever cross our minds, and nothing in my spirit confirms to me that it's a good idea or God-ordained. Actually, my spirit tells me that to do this, means you stop believing in the Miracle.

But our society today says, "Go, live your truth." Well guess what, if "your truth" is a lie, it's still a lie, regardless of what you believe.

His Word teaches to guard your heart, but do not listen to it. It will lead you astray every time.

I will not sit in judgment of her. It's her and her family's decision, and I wish/hope/pray for them the peace of Christ as they endure this terrible hardship and tragedy. But make no mistake, we will all stand before the Judgment Seat and make an account for our lives. This is one thing I'd rather not have to account for.

And no, I don't believe a DNR or turning off life support for a brain-dead patient is an apples-apples comparison.

God knows your heart and your thoughts. She will be fine. Prayers to the Shockey family.

Sad. My neighbors wife just passed from this very same issue. Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosed after she had a dry cough that never went away. Never smoked.

No, having been in their position, I explained why I disagree with their decision/position. There's a difference.

But what was the need for the explanation in the first place?

Because how she passed is part of this thread and their very public example and sharing of her assisted suicide. And when a large number of folks get on that bandwagon with stuff like "respect" and "I wanna go out like that" kinda stuff, here and everywhere else in the hunting community, I was compelled to share a counterpoint.

We do that on this site everyday on all manner of topics, why is it a problem now?

There are times where showing grace, regardless of personal beliefs is appropriate…
God be with Shockey family as they bury their matriarch and grieve.
Kry, condolences on the loss of your first wife. Cancer sucks.

Cancer and death sucks! It’s a hard pain to carry. I think only those in that moment know what’s best for them and theirs, no judgments here! Moms are the glue no doubt

The Shockeys live in Canada where it's legal.

I have known a few people that took their own lives and it has to be one of the hardest decision a person could ever make and then follow through with. For years I always thought it was a cowardly thing to do, but knowing the people who have done it I can tell you they were not cowards. I have no doubts they knew the pain it would cause to those left behind but they must have felt the pain they were in was much greater than the pain the family would endure or they would not have made the decision. I am not sure I would ever have the courage it takes to make a decision like that and I hope I am never in a situation where I even have to consider it.

RIP

The "Death with Dignity" act was approved by Oregon voters in 1997. Lots of restrictions, and usually just a few hundred a year take advantage, many just being prescribed the meds for the comfort of knowing they are there if the pain becomes unbearable.
