A few years ago I fabricated a round metal skin that mounts over the plastic lid after they tried to chew through the top. It has lasted a few years without a problem, but as pictured, they finally figured how to get around that.  It only took them 10 days to cut that hole and steal about 75 lbs of corn out of it.

One chewed through the plastic birdseed bucket lid I had on the front porch in 3 days. I hate the bastards.

Little basta*ds can turn the spinner plate on one of my feeders and I'm going to have to put a cage around it to keep them out. I have the coons in check now it's the tree rats!

I even had one chew up a game camera! Luckily it was a cheap Walmart camera.

Would wrapping it with small mesh chicken wire stop them.

Would wrapping it with small mesh chicken wire stop them. 1/2 " hardware cloth (wire) will. Used a garbage can to cover the lid.
