Whats opinions between the models of Leupold Freedoms Vs Vortex Diamondback HP(High Preformance) models? Anyone had experience with both them? Looking for pros/cons. Quality of glass/low light between the two?

I've had 2 Vortex, one was a Diamond HP. Both failed within 2-3 months. Their warranty is outstanding, and you get a new scope right away from them. But the first one failed too quickly, I'm not going out with a scope I have to worry about. I've had Leupold scopes for at least 20 years and never a failure. The replacements Vortex sent to me are still in the box.

I'm one of the self admitted Vortex homers on this site...but I tell people, it's the high end stuff that's really good. I think Leupy's low end stuff seems to be more consistent in quality.

I've never had Vortex High end stuff, but I too have had their lower end scopes. Both have failed, and I still have one of the replacements in the box. (sold the other). For lower end stuff that will still perform well, I look to Burris or Leupold.

Hunt with both of my vortexes (PST I & II) every year and have for about ten years with the Gen I and it hasn’t failed me yet. I do have several 20 to 30 year old leupold vx II’s no failures on them either even in the dreaded leupold windage adjustable dovetail mounts.

FWIW, I bought a Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 a few years ago, and just bought a Whiskey 4.
Doesn't answer your question, but I've been really happy with the value

In the past I have hunted with both brands but slightly differnet models. One was the Leupold vx2 and the other was the original Vortex Diamondback. The Diamondback was horribe in low light conditions. The leupold was significantly better.

I’ve hunted several Diamondbacks and loved them. Never had an issue. My friend had a Leupold Freedom and the adjustable eyepiece pulled straight off after a month.
At that price range, regardless of the brand, quality control can be an issue. If I were in your shoes, I’d go with the Vortex because I’ve had good experiences and their warranty is the best in the industry. Vortex is the top selling scope brand in the world. Clearly their scopes perform otherwise no one would buy them.

Right now Midway has the Vortex Optics Diamondback HP Rifle Scope 3-12x 42mm Side Focus V-Plex Reticle Matte on sale for $200, much less than the Leupold Freedom counterpart. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2420141935?pid=141935A couple questions to all: 1. does the price difference sway anyone's decision towards this Vortex Diamondback HP? 2. There's a Sig Whiskey 4 that looks very intriguing to me for about $250 for a 3-12. How would this compare to the Freedom and Diamondback HP?
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
