Depending on what time of day you look on there you can get an entire page or two of nothing but scams. It's pretty easy to spot which ones aren't above board.
Most of the ones who don't give a location are scams, I caught one scammer copying gun ads from another sight and posted them there for their own...and then them wanting you to pay them on-line is another clue.
If you click on the little red reticle next to the word "location" it will show you the approximate location of that IP address on a map. If they say they're in Dallas, but the IP address is in New Jersey, that's not a good sign.

This! Always check that before contacting someone for a potential buy.
90% of posts are scams there anymore. Almost a complete waste of time. I have reported many times but they don't remove them ever anymore. Probably because there would be nothing left
Still, doesn't it make you want to bring a couple of friends and meet the seller out back -- with Louisville Sluggers? All decent folk despise "gol-dang" thieves and they seem to be coming out of the woodwork.
They won’t go away as long as people who think they can get a $400 gen 5 Glock keep sending them money. Most of the ones I’ve heard of want $50 sent to hold the gun and insure that you meet them. Greedy people think they are getting a great deal and send the money.
Still plenty of good people on that site but it’s annoying digging thru the crap.
Around the time of the hard freeze a few years ago I got one of the scammers to admit that he is a young man in his mid-20s named Ola that lives in Nigeria. They do these petty scams because they have absolutely nothing else to do. I still talk with him at least once a week and we send pictures back and forth to one another about interesting things in our countries. He's explained the politics of his country to me and I sympathize with the predicament he finds himself in. Even though he's a Muslim he drinks alcohol. He told me on the rare occasions that he gets someone to send him some money he's very happy because he can eat really well for a week or two. What he wants the most is meat and beer. He would like to come to the United States to go to school and if that doesn't happen he would like to start a business in his home country. Oddly enough he wants to open a beauty salon. I told him that only homosexuals do that in the states and he was absolutely shocked.
I've met a lot of good folks on that site but scammers are rampant and easy to spot. If a person is dumb enough to get scammed by one of them they really don't need to own a firearm. Just my 2 cents.
The easy way to avoid those is to never look at the Dallas listings. Choose FW or Tyler and you'll see very few of them. You will also skip the two spammers who are dealers on there. They list up to 50 in a row sometimes at prices lower than most other dealers. I suspect they are scammers as well.
I've made a few decent deals there in the last couple of years. If you can progress a conversation to the point of talking over the phone and the seller keeps on communicating then you can do the deals. All the above deals I've done ended up being a FTF. They required me to make a 4-5 hour drive one way though but they were value to very fair transactions.
Just have to have your steps to confirm that it is a real buy from a serious seller. It is pretty easy to spot the scams. It's not 90% but there are a fair number of them.
Please be aware that scammer's are infiltrating various sites to include our own and TFF. Many popular forums with a "Sales" Section are easy targets for those(Including regulars) new to the site.
Also ask yourself before making a transaction, "This is alot of money, am I able to get my money back after sending it?"
It used to be a decent place back in the day and not so many scam artist. I have flagged so many, but they all seem to stay up there. I don't think the owner gives two chits about the place as long as he gets his money. That seems to be his first priority. Personally, I hope the place goes down the 4 inch PVC.
