I've been kicking around the idea of getting a Retay shotgun. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I have the masai Mara retay. I’ve been very pleased. No failures with about 600 or so rounds. Points well

You can get a beretta A300 or that franchi for under a 1000. If they are 1400 you can get the a400 for a few hundred more than 1400. Maybe good guns but I would find it hard to compete

There's a long thread about Retay on Shotgunworld.com. Good guns but as the price crept up it's turned off a lot of people. Turkish guns for Italy prices. That said Beretta, Franchi and Benelli all have Turkish parts.

I just picked up a Masai Mara 20 gauge at Cabela's for $799. It is the Masai Mara Bronze Pure model. Has fairly nice wood, comes with a hard case, adjustment shims for drop and cast, 5 chokes and choke wrench. It was on the used gun rack, but it is a new gun. Still had the factory tags hanging on it, and they had several of them. From what the manager told me, most likely there was a chain that decided to no longer carry them and they were shipped back to the distributor. Once they are shipped from the distributor, the distributor considers the firearms as used even if the box was never opened. Cabela's / Bass Pro will purchase lots like this and put them on the used rack.
For $799 (plus veteran discount), I think I got a pretty good deal. Haven't fired it yet though so don't know if it was a good deal or not. Agree with others that at the prices I am seeing for these typically, I wouldn't even consider them.
