Got a third "Please conserve" email and one text message from our provider.

Prices hit $4,744/megawatt/hr. for a while, then dropped. Normal is $44
Let me translate that: $44.00/megawatt/hour. A megawatt is 1000 watts So $44.00 / 1000 = $0.044 KWH. You then pay about 4 cents per mwh to get the power to your home, plus profit for your supplier. So take $0.044 + $0.04 = 8.4 cents per KWH. Hopefully you have a fixed price contract of about 10 cents per KWW.

Today's peak of $4,744.00 / 1000 = $ 4.744 kwh + $0.04 delivery charges. = $4.78/KHW for you "market price" power contract for those peak hours.

Demand is spiking as folks get off work. Prices are on a sharp climb again and reserve capacity is dropping. Prices back up above $3,000

If you are not on a fixed rate contract, you should be puckered...tomorrow is forecast to be the same or worst.

You've gotta love our state regulators. now off to my me a Tesla ....

The entire state is currently above $3,000/mwh and climbing.

you think Ercot is bad try being on Oncor's service - talk about a worthless company. The ice storm this past winter put them out of business - main reason? They do not keep up the tree trimming on their lines so some ice just destroys them - I am fixing to have to shell out 20K for a home generator because of all this stuff - ridiculous

I don't think it is illegals buying the big McMansions and sucking the Trinity aquifer dry in Hayes County.
This "ERCOT can go it alone" mentality is going to come a cropper. Abbott keeps saying, oh we're just fine, don't worry about it -- but please turn your AC up to 85 tonight ...

There’s no “e” in Hays.

Didn't say they was buying anything, but you can bet your bippy they got the AC's cranked wherever they are being housed.

The wind is down today, wind power is down around 50% today. Wind is running at 10MW with 38MW capacity and Nat Gas is around 15MW below capacity. Thank you fossil fuels. The grid can take more power, we just need more power and more reliable power sources.

Every day there more people and more construction in Texas. I think they've set a record use day on almost every very hot or very cold day all year.

You do know that ONCOR is owned by a company in California don’t you. They are not the same company as a few years ago.

Oncor does not generate, nor dictate the generation in Texas. All systems have huge issues with an ice storm.

From Ercot's Supply and Demand graph from their website: ERCOT Dashboards

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Should be fun Friday - supposed to hit 110° in DFW metroplex Friday - guess I'll be checking/testing the generator first thing in the morning BEFORE it gets too hot!

I know that Oncor does not generate - what I do know is that their service (or lack thereof) is horrible -the California ownership explains a lot

I stand corrected on Hays County. Shoulda known it was named for the feller in charge of the outfit my GGGF fought for in '47. He'd be aghast, I am sure.

considering the crazy load growth and the intense heat since Mid-June, ERCOT has performed admirably this summer and demonstrated that not all renewable energy is created equally...

Man, that's some serious gouging going on there;
Played with some numbers, and $500 worth of gasoline or diesel (in the least-efficient generator(s)) can produce a megawatt/hr easily (of course you gotta have the generator(s) sitting there ready to go....)
