Days are starting to get shorting. Now with the full moon.... Teal should start to move. I have not seen any yet but I bet in the next week or 2 there will be some sightings.....

Can't wait! Early teal is my favorite season. I hunt all 16 days. Hope we get some rain soon down here on the coast. Low tides and high temps have everything dry or real close. Also watching for Mississippi kites. When you see them, teal are moving too.

Ya it will be an interesting season. Full moon is August 31st and the season will be close by the time another one comes around. Season is also early this year. I'd much prefer to see the season run the last half of September as I'm afraid most birds will be migrating with the full moon on September 29. Our water in north texas actually looks decent this year.

No early Teal what so ever. This year lakes are breaming full now so it’s going to be good.

Unfortunately we missed all the run off rain at my place in young county. Ponds are in pitiful shape. Down on the coast where I hunt is really dry too. Water cut off from rice farmers on the west side of houston is gonna hurt too. Of course, with peak hurricane season coming, it could change overnite.

Yeah I don't have high hopes for early teal in Winnie unless we get some good rain. I'm hoping we get a few of those tropical systems that don't develop into full blown storms but still give a good steady drenching.

As long as we continue to have the high pressure over the entire state, I wouldn't count on any storms coming from the Gulf.

Our water may not dry up late summer this year, they may move down later I fear for you all. We have ponds literally everywhere right now, every low spot.

Our 14 ac pond is well a puddle at this point and not looking promising. Last few years it’s been limits but until the Katy prairie gets some rain. Unless you have the ability to pump water teal season is looking like a bust.

Not afraid to ask a question. I’m not familiar with a full moon and its impact on teal.anyone care to explain.

Not afraid to ask a question. I’m not familiar with a full moon and its impact on teal.anyone care to explain. Down on the coast, yall are lucky enough that they stay for a while before they make the jump south. In north and central TX there are some spots that'll hold birds, but nothing like down there. It's real hit and miss and they just don't build up numbers as much. Sometime there is no rhyme or reason for them to come or go, but they do migrate a lot with a full moon. If we're lucky up here we can catch them on the way through riding that lit up night sky.

We have tons around right now, lots of rain lately and water everywhere. They should head down early Sept though, when we get our first good freeze or frost. No early teal up here just bonus birds first part of the season.

In NTX, it is so hit or miss, not sure I have ever seen a pattern where there are more birds based on moon. I have seen a pattern where there always seems to be more birds open day, and it tails off fast after that.

Not afraid to ask a question. I’m not familiar with a full moon and its impact on teal.anyone care to explain. Alot of waterfowl migrate heavily during full moons, especially during a cold front. If your on the gulf coast where BWT stage before heading further south you will typically see an influx of birds during full moons. As Guy said though, in NTX I have never seen a correlation with the moon phase and the number of birds. But I believe that's because BWT just don't stage in NTX and head straight to the texas costal prairies which is why our hunting is so hit or miss.

Thanks for the info. It makes sense, but I haven’t paid much attention. I have noticed that at certain times there will be a good push right before shooting light and then it comes late as in mid morning till about noon. I haven’t ever thought of the moon phase. We hunt rice country and it’s always been a game of water for most. It’ll be something I start keeping notes on. I hunt 4 legged animals using that philosophy. Makes sense to apply it to duck hunting.

I think your question on “why” hasn’t been answered. I think why they migrate at full moon is because they can migrate at night, but I’m not sure on that.
But one thing I do know, the early morning boat ride to the X and setting up sure is nice with a full moon. But more ducks, not sure about that.

Migration is a funny thing, it can bring new ducks in and also push ducks out.
