NE and East Texas have a lot more bears roaming around than most people think. I’d be more concerned about where mama bear was. That feeder will be upside down when she shows up roflmao

Agree on looks like Baby bear. If it is and Mama Bear likes the contents that feeder might get some damage.

That’s highly possible as well, the breast being a different color is what makes me think it’s a bear but who knows for sure.

I don't think so. Never seen a pig up on its hind feet like that. I've seen them squat thier azzez to get thier snout higher, but that one is standing upright.

It would take a good size hog to get up that high, that’s not a big animal.
I agree with baby bear. There’s definitely a few around wright Patman down through the iron ore hills of Cass county

Hogs will assume any position necessary to reach a feeder. They will readily get up on their hind legs if necessary.

That is a hog all day long. A young Black Bear (even a skinny one) would appear very different. Their eyes are placed more forward facing, and the ears are heavily furred inside (would appear black/covered) and very rounded.

We are not privey to the location this feeder is or where the photo was taken but black bears in East Texas are either bears from Arkansas or small "Honey Bears' from Louisiana.

Neither one is very common....but do exist. Yeah, its fun to take a marginal quality game cam pic and speculate, but sorry....its a hog. I know that sucks all the fun right out of the room.....but it is what it is.

we had game camera pictures over the years of hogs on their back legs eating out of a feeder - not uncommon

They do it all the time climbing out my pen traps.

Is it a somewhat unusual feeding position for them....sure, but they WILL.

Even so....its not a diagnostic tool for animal identification (on its own).

I'd love for the pic to be a Black Bear because I want them to re-establish themselves everywhere in the State. BUT the only place where they currently enjoy decent numbers and breeding populations is far West Texas (Big Bend area) and those bears came up out of Northern Mexico.

There are increasing sightings in East Texas but most are in far Northern East Texas (Bowie and Titus counties mostly). I think that is great.

Since male bears can and do travel great distances....some show up in other counties in East Texas. These are confirmed sightings (game camera pics)....so no question about it. But they are still rare. The Louisiana Black Bear (locally called Honey Bears) could pop up just about anywhere along the Texas/Louisiana border, but again not common. I hope that changes in the future.

Sometimes we just WANT a certain picture to be an animal that isn't often seen. How many times has a blurry picture been posted on THF wondering if it was a Mountain Lion? Actually odds are better you would see a Mountain Lion than a Black Bear. And if the supposed Black Bear in the pic were a 'young' bear (or even cub still) then that dictates a breeding pair....making it even more unlikely.

I'd love for it to be true.....but its a hog.

Hog has a snout, that's more of a nose of a bear.
Front leg, bends forward , on hog bends back.
With respect, that's more of a bar than a hog.
We have bears here.

Watched them literally climb out of a feed pen trap and knock the roof off a cage trap by getting on their back legs like that.
