The other is that I have a built in gas cooktop and I would like to replace it with a pellet. I need one without the stand and wheels.

Unfortunately you can’t buy one for $2100 any more or at least I couldn’t find them any cheaper, we bought a second one for the cabin last month at the Frisco store and it was around $2700 give or take with tax and their extra shipping charge bs. My first one came from Tulsa and it was closer to $2300 prior to the inflation mess we’re in.

Not without added electronics, I’ve got a ThermoWorks Signals I ran my Egg with and it’s a solid smoker but a PITA compared to a pellet. I’ve got an XL sitting next to the Yoder and it’ll never smoke another meat on it again, best grilling cooker on the planet though and it can make some great BBQ but it’s not a pellet burner.

I guess you're right, not everyone knows how to dial in the vents just right, its a learned skill and takes time

I have a Green Mountain but I never use anything like that. Actually i can’t remember ever personally cooking anything on any type grill. The guys at my last two leases really like it and I like eating the stuff they cook.

x2 I do cheat and have a Digi-Q...it turns it into pellet easy. Mine is an older one that doesn't connect to wifi too.

well I should have known better to start a thread on this topic - it was totally meant just to see what folks suggest for a decent BARBQ pit - I am a simple guy - just want to cook a steak or salmon and smoke a baby back every once in awhile - nothing fancy - apparently there is a LOT MORE to it than I understand - end of the day it is a piece of meat to eat - but thanks for all of the info

There is a rabbit hole, and a good, better, best for most things in life.
I like to cook, and I like to eat even more. I don’t mind spending many on things I enjoy, and that will last longer than me.

Everyone here is a fan boy of one brand or another. I gave the thickness advice because I am actually happy with all three of my easy bake ovens. I have a large BGE, a yoder, and a traeger timberline. The traegers aren't crap like a lot of people say, mine stays out at the deer lease in the elements and hasn't had an issue. Honestly, it can cook as good of a brisket as anything else. The trick is the timberline is the only one (EDIT: only Traeger model in their lineup) that isn't made out of a single piece of thin sheet metal.

The BGE isn't big enough for the cooks I like to do, so I use that for burgers, hot dogs, poppers, searing steaks, etc.. My yoder is great and I love it. I don't have to clean it as much as the other two to maintain consistent temperature. That said, there is more cost than there is benefit compare to the other two.

Love my Yoder. Long cooks or short cooks are a breeze. It’s made a few trips to the deer lease where I sleep all night and hunt the morning and have brisket ready for dinner. It will cook a dang good steak too.

P.S. for the other Yoder users, you can get well above the 650* if you place a few chunks of mesquite in the burn box, then you have a great steak.

Same thing as deer hunting, all depends on what you prefer. Hill country meat hunt or Maverick county hunting horns. It’s all deer hunting.

Check out the Recteq Bullseye. Great grill and smoker, they have outstanding customer service. Been seeing several of these at steak comps

Was looking at having some briskets and some birds smoked for my sons grad party. What they were charging I bought a cheap Pit Boss horizontal smoker and it did the job. Son has smoked Salmon a few times on it that came out amazing. I cant justify dropping the coin on a high end one cause it wouldnt get used much, but the Pit Boss filled the need.

When I bought my Yoder stick burner the store was willing to make the order so shipping was split between several other smokers they ordered. I picked it up at the store and they loaded it for me.
Good friend has a 640 Comp and uses it in his BBQ food truck at his bar. Has had it a few years now with no issues.

I bought mine, and not the man of the house, lol. He had no say in the purchase thankfully.
