In the early '80s I lived in Pelham Alabama and met my first set of friends who were being raised by a single mom. They were latchkey kids. She was an old school hard [censored] authoritarian Southern woman and her boys were no stranger to having their backside warmed up with a belt. Pretty sure her 2 sons turned out just fine. Now that I brought that up I am going to track them down and see whether or not they came up right.

Had to sell all my guns during my divorce to get the best lawyer I could afford so I could to keep my boys for the above reason. One was 9 and the other was 11 at the time. Raised them by myself and never remarried until they graduated from high school to ensure they had what I consider a proper upbringing. Started to replace the guns when the youngest graduated but every one I bought reminded me of the ones I sold and the old memories so I quit buying and just have a couple of reliable ones now. Just writing this reminds me of a couple I wish I could find that were very special to me. Well worth the loss as they grew up to be solid young men.

I worked for Mr Harper one day when I was between jobs. Very good experience. He's a helluva fisherman and a former football coach....at many places including Odessa Permian, so there's no shortage of stories. You will earn your pay no doubt....wash and wax his bass boat, clean out garage, weed eat, mow, etc.

And I saved him some $$, which he appreciated. A gutter replacement guy showed up while I was cleaning the boat to give Don an estimate on new gutters. After the gutter guy left, I persuaded Don to let me take a look at the gutters. After a thorough gutter and downspout cleaning out and some rebracing on the corners (thank God it's a one story house), they were as good as new.

He overpaid for the time I was there and gave me some of his scents and a couple spinnerbaits. It was a good day.
