Just a safty reminder to all of you. Know the folks you hunt with and wear safety glasses/shooting glasses. I was about 80 yards to my friends right at the end of a pond. He shot and the best I can describe it is it sounded like a dozen tiny whips cracking with a whistling sound also and it felt like I'd been hit with 4 or 5 BB gun shots. One embedded in my forehead, one in my forearm and the last one through the side of my shirt and into my side ( fat caught it LOL ).
He evidently shot at a Dove crossing the pond and the shot ricocheted off the water and I caught 3 that went in me and a couple more that didn't. Dug one out while hunting, saved the other two for my wife to do at home.

Sorry to hear that man, that could have been a lot worse! Sounds like it was bad enough. I spent an hour and a half on an operating table in 67 from a hunting accident.
Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

Always wear safety glasses when hunting period. Exactly, I was very lucky, next time and everytime thereafter I'll have my Super Secret Ninja Dove shootin' shades on.................as soon as I buy some. Seriously, I WILL be wearing eye protection. 2 inches from being blinded is scary as hell.

I would never have thought that would have happened at 80 yards. I have been peppered from closer than that but they did not break the skin. I'm glad you posted this. I will be more careful about my distance now.

Shooting glasses are a must for dove hunting. That is no kidding. Even my dog wears shooting glasses on those hunts. Kiddin aside. Glad your ok. I got stung with one on my leg Tuesday that caused me to jump and let out an audible and loud Ouch. I saw later some of those guys in the direction the shot came from were using high brass #6 pheasant loads.

even a low brass shotshell can have a range upwards of 120yds. the best advice I can give is that if the bird is in both hunters range, you're probably too close. Have guys choose shooting lanes like pheasant hunting. No dove is worth an accident!
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

I set next to a pond on state land, a truck pulled up and watched about 15-20 minutes. I had a flock of dove fly over and they all jumped out, one of them sat 30 yards or less right in front of me. I was setting facing north with my back to a fence line and he was directly north the other side of a 50 ft wide pond. I stood up and said WTF loud enough for him to hear he looked at me an sat down. He was also facing north or I would of moved. I guess that's what you get for hunting state land. I could expect this(not knowing proper shooting lanes) on state land, but not from a hunting budy. I and other hunters on state try to keep my distance from other hunters and stand up and make sure other hunters know I'm there (with a waive or something) so we all use proper shooting lanes. I had a kid with his father in bright orange, I noticed them in the same field, they kept moving towards any one shooting. I seen a dove fly between us, the kid shot, it was closer to me then them and I was waiting to shoot because it was passing low between us (a no shoot direction). It scared they chit out of me, but I just moved and put more distance between us.

I was going to say the same thing! I was shot a few years back while duck hunting...second reason to carry a few 3 1/2" BB's with ya'! He won't shoot at me any more! J.J.

I think people are careless, just out for themselves. I have to disagree about the peppering. If you do what you should, that does not happen. I have hunted dove and upland game since I was old enough to get my Hunters Safety and shoot a gun (more than twenty years). Never pepper anyone. I take the girls out after the craziness is over so that this does not happen. It not worth the aggravation.
I am glad to hear you are okay, I wish idiots like that would stay home. When I was a kid a group hunting behind us was careless and shot me and my aunt. Dad made sure that they did hunt after that. I get very cranky when I get peppered, once is one thing but after that absolutely no excuse. IMHO, well no that just good sportsmanship.
