I know that crate training is very important, but im wondering where should you keep the pup during the day? My garage is Climate conditioned and i was thinking of building a Fence Kennel in there for when im at work. Your thoughts and advice are appreciated. I do plan on keeping her in the crate at night and when i cant watch her, but is it ok to kennel them during the day?

I feel bad when I leave mine in the kennel all day. I'd rather leave him outside (as long as your fence is secure).

I leave both dogs in crates, side by side to each other in the morning until lunch and then until I get off from work. I've peeped in the windows to check on them, and every time they are fast asleep!! Now I don't feel bad, plus, I don't worry about them getting into anything!!

I think the crate is the best choice. Every dog I have seen in a kennel seems to be going crazy and running circles. If you make the crate "their place", then they will be just calm and rest all day.
Be careful leaving your dog in the garage. If there are any strong odors or gas, it can destroy your dogs sense of smell.

I felt bad about the crate for a while when my dog was a puppy, but the more time she spent in it, the more content she was. Sure she gets bored in there, but she usually just sleeps.
She doesn't seem to mind at all and I know she's not getting into trouble.

I have my two in kennels. I learned a lesson in this whole thing. My oldest I crate trained her first and kept her in the house with us. I was ok with that and still would be but my wife didn't like the shedding so we had to put her in a kennel.
The crate training made things go really smooth with the kennel and the other good thing is Shelbi want used the bathroom in her kennel unless her stomach is upset which that is very rare. She holds it until I let her out.
Now my other one I didn't crate train her and just put her in the kennel that was a mistake. I work my tail off making sure it stays clean.
I also feel bad about leaving them in a crate all day. I like giving them a kennel so they can stretch their legs and move around.

Mine are always crate trained first. Once the crate training is done I choose where I will put them depending on how many hours I will be away from home. If its a few hours they go in the crate. If its all day they go in the kennel.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Do you plan on keeping the dog in the house for the most part or is it going to end up in the kennel?

I am all about crate training. Like it was said above, it becomes their place. I put my dog in his crate in the back seat of my truck and we play/train on my lunch break. It has worked out great so far, but he is growing fast and I am not sure how its going to work once I have to get a bigger crate.

It has worked out great so far, but he is growing fast and I am not sure how its going to work once I have to get a bigger crate. I was worried about getting the bigger crate too. I did get the bigger crate and I scratched up my nice truck every time I put it in the back seat. Then I got a second big dog. Two large crates in the back seat wasn't possible. So I took the larger dog to petsmart and found the smallest crate he could stay in on road trips while in the back seat of the truck. I ended up buying the Remington Intermediate ones from Adacemy. Not trying to hijack, but my dogs see their crates as their places. I have two smaller crates for the back seat. I also have two XL ones and a wire crate inside the house. They know which are theirs and when I say "Kennel" they go to their crate.

I leave my dog outside in the yard until i get home if i cant take him with me. He crates on his own when we go to bed and will go in there on command too. Like stinkbelly's dog, i think he sees it as his den or something. I never used it for punishment.
OP, Why leave them in a kennel inside when they can be out? Or do you not have a fenced yard?

I've got two dogs that use the same crate and it works great for me.

Crate...all things considered, in the long run, I think you'll be more satisfied having your dog crate trained....

Mine go out in the morning, Back in the crate about 10-11 am. Back out at 4pm and back in at 6pm and then back out at 9pm. Then in the crate all night. Repeat. It's their den. It is also what they travel in to hunt. Been doing it since they were pups. They do not get to run loose in the house because they started marking and that ended that.

Crate gets my vote, easier to transport if dog travels with you etc. My girl loves her crate, shoot ill be home and she'll go take a nap in there.

I split time with mine.
As a puppy crate 100%. When they get a little older they get to stay in a 5x10 kennel. Depending on the dog they eventually earn the right to be out in the house full time.
Every puppy should be crate trained and it’s the only safe place for them. It helps with house training as well.

Crate. My Vizslas are always crate trained. Left in crate when not home until one or two years old, then the crate door stays open after they earn full run of the house with the crate being their safe space. I do have a graveled kennel outside, but it is very rarely used.
