To start with. It is by its very nature 'experimental' for the purpose. Cost $1M for that stretch of buoys.....but worth it IF it deters a significant amount of people.

Saw an interview with DPS Capt, believe he said it will be a 1000 yards, they also mentioned there was some type of obstacle underneath, but didn't elaborate on it. Photo of them on a crane didn't show anything attached at that point.

True...but the marine/military version has spikes all over it. These don't. All they do is 'rotate'.

Put a person on top of the 'ball' with their weight past the center point and it will actually HELP you across by dumping you on the other side.

I can only see them being useful in waters deep enough to require swimming. Many crossings on the Rio Grande are waist deep or less. Some places ankle deep.

So we should just stop and let thousands pour over the border into Texas? I'm good with stopping what we can. Don't you find it funny that the masses show up at the crossings with the most network TV cameras?

Are they bulletproof?

I see it as a migration of a species, caused by the collapse of a government - ours. 'Best you can hope for is to plan and protect your family to mitigate some of the consequences.
