Say you work in what used to be a really nice part of town but now is slowly being taken over by a bad crowd, especially after dark. Walking to your car after dark can be and is scary. For now, a gun is out (long story). What is option 2 for self-protection?
Pepper spray? Taser? If so which ones? I see the small pink key chain ones, but these don't seem good. Any experience here?

Imperial sword!
Or nunchucks
Either of those would likely have enough of a visual “that dudes crazy” look than to actually need to use them…but if you do…

You mention work, but we know you are retired. I know this may not be your desired option, but call Wade / Big Pig and get that home on the market while it is at the top of the market and bug out.

Work should provide better security and parking if they don’t permit firearms.

A bright pink [censored] hat. That’ll scare them away. That or a paper mask, that’ll protect you.

I have only been caught printing to my knowlege once and that was in Rockwall by a female officer. The only reason I know of that is because she asked me what I was carrying I told her she said wow and that was that.

A gun. A gun is the only option. Don’t reveal your hand until forced, then the consequences of having a gun far outweigh being dead

First choice would be a can of bear spray.
If one of those hoodlums/crack heads starts approaching you, give ‘em a little spray.
Amazon has a nice can for $31

Based on the OP’s statement that the gun isn’t an option (probably a metal detector), I recommend a smaller than bear spray sized can of OC spray. I’ve hosed a lot of folks with it and it’s pretty dang effective. Perfect aim isn’t needed either. The statue only describes it as small and for personal defense.

Amazon has a nice can for $31 something like that, in which it foams...has extra capsaicin & a marking dye & something on keychain to be used as defensive device, for up close

Have "**** you" tattooed on your forehead, a line of barbed wire around your neck, and "Born to Lose" across your knuckles. The scum would realize you're a homey and give you a pass.

Good buddy of mine just tucks the gun between his scrotum and leg when he goes thru metal detectors, they will give him a quick pat down and never find his gun, these are just security gaurds doing the pat downs.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. Like an idiot, I sprayed some on a windy day and got a faceful - it was nowhere near as bad as pepper spray.
A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

If you need to tote a gun to come and go, you might need to give some serious reconsideration to where you are going.

A gun. A gun is the only option. Don’t reveal your hand until forced, then the consequences of having a gun far outweigh being dead Did this^^^ at work for years where firearms were expressly forbidden. Just changed jobs. New company "encourages" handguns (a couple) in the vehicle. Refreshing.... Always carry unless you have to go through a search/metal detector...if you have to submit to a search/metal detector simply don't go there...
I believe in science and I’m an insufferable [censored] Actually, BBC is pretty damn good "You Cannot Simultaneously Be Politically Correct And Intellectually Honest!"
