I’ve been looking and looking and wearing Judd out with questions. but I finally decided I’m gonna have a boat before season this year. And for once I came across one of those deals you can’t say no to. And got to it in time. Was a couple hour drive down to caddo lake but we got it home last night. 1844 go devil. This thing is clean. No dents or bangs and you can tell it was well taken care of. Trailer needs some work and things changed around but it’ll do for now. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/07/full-46861-394068-img_0918.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/07/full-46861-394069-img_0919.jpeg) Wife said happy anniversary let’s go get it. So ten minutes after pulling into the house from striper fishing all day on Texoma we got back in the truck and made the six hour round trip to go get it. Best part is i picked it up for a song.

Nice! You got a motor picked out yet? Not yet. Don’t want to buy new so I’ll be searching for a deal on a used one.

I had one years ago with a 35GTR on it. Was a great boat until I flipped it. Might've had some alcohol involved, but the square chine Gatortail Extreme hull I replaced it with never came close to flipping over!
Have fun and be safe. Take the foam out ASAP if not already removed, because I will guarantee you that it is holding A LOT of water = weight.

Congrats! We just completed a build on our boat and after being unsuccessful with a mudskipper kit, went with a used 35 GoDevil motor and we love it. We found it in on Marketplace in the Baton Rouge area for a really good deal. Since they are built down there, a lot more of them are available used. The owner of this motor was upgrading to a new 40 with fnr. The options up here for a used gd were a lot less. (We are in Terrell.) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/2UbZXgR.jpg) But I wish I would have gone through the boat trailer a little better before I took it on a long trip like that. I had to do some repairs on the road due to that oversight.

Looks like you put Bearing Buddy’s on. Those go devil surface drives are good and bad. Good with less things to go wrong with no power trim, bad no power trim more work on long hauls/long hours on the water.

Nice, I've been without a boat for a few years. Will be looking to pick one up in the next few years. But dang if you want a new rig you need to be ready to spend $30k. I dont mind spending some money but that price point is alittle hard to justify.

But dang if you want a new rig you need to be ready to spend $30k. Buy a used boat and new motor, and you effectively have a brand new boat. That’s what I did, the boats last forever, no moving parts... You can refurb the boat if you want, rewire it all, new gas line, new lights, paint… Buying a new duck boat is a waste of money JMO, but if you are rich like mohunter and BDB it don’t matter.

"Good with less things to go wrong with no power trim, bad no power trim more work on long hauls/long hours on the water." True, this why I went with them. No clutch either. The not having a reverse or trim to repair is worth the inconvenience to me. The learning curve of turning it sharp sharp and when to stop to coast in, wasn't as bad as I thought either. We did the work ourselves, but we have a 1760 boat with a good motor, blind on it, electronics, trolling motor, lights, gator glide and several other accessories for under 7k . We trolled marketplace, craigslist, used equipment sites and company sales for nearly everything. The lakes and rivers we hunt in north and east TX don't have long rides from a launch. If I was hunting the coast, I would probably look at a different setup.

Thats the plan, new motor, likely a gatortail with a used hull and a solid trailer should be everything I need. Even with a boat, I will still walk in hunt alot so can't justify something brand new. I have to many good walk in spots to give up on. Plus I hunt solo almost entirely and know the PIA launching a boat by your self can be.

No clutch? So no neutral, always in gear, prop always turning when motor is running?
I got a Mudbuddy 35hp surface drive, no reverse either, I would like to have one, if you always hunt with someone you don’t need it. My next motor will have reverse, I hunt solo a lot, and it helps maneuvering around boat ramps and docks, especially when it is windy.

I’ve got a line on the motor I want but don’t have the funds right now. Got some stuff I’m trying to thin out and sell and if it goes then I’ll put a motor on her.
