Yep, I've noticed that the Chap is limiting their deer quota harvest for this fall season. Youth will be taking very few does/spikes and the big buck harvest will also be limited to fewer hunters. I'm guessing poor range conditions will result in poor antler quality and poor body conditions if the summer stays dry.

Yep, noticed the reduction in hunts and elimination of the Management hunt.

Oh, I'm going to put in for the Chap and so are the other 10,000 plus people throughout the states!

My son and I hunted the management hunt last November. We saw good bucks just about every sit but could only shoot something with 7 or less points and outside the ears. While on the stand we didn't see a doe. It rained every morning so that made the mornings tough. My interesting observation was that after shooting a javelina, out stepped a big 10 and 8 to the north looking at the blind, they both would have been legal on the Either Sex hunt. Then 30 minutes later I killed a hog and within 10minutes, 2 more bucks walked into the sendero to the west, both big, legal 8s. In the orientation they asked us not to take a doe but we could since the rules said we could. Not sure what that implies. I think it is still a pretty good draw and certainly big deer, it could bounce back with good conditions and management.

The dove hunting looks pretty bad too. Twenty+ years ago it was common for everyone to limit. Is it just the weather or did someone screw up the place?

It is very dry down there. They did have some rain in early August but it dried up within a week. The deer numbers are way down. Almost every pond is dried up so doves may be going elsewhere for water.

You sure about that? They got several inches of rain in Cotulla week before last.

I drove down to Encinal week before last and the country looked pretty good all things considering.

Can't speak to deer numbers there as they (to my knowledge) don't supplemental feed.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
