Unions had their place and time. In today's world they are an impediment to progress.

I am 100% against unions. We had one union vote in our shop, instigated by a couple of young, white idiots that hadn't worked there very long. Thankfully, it was resoundingly voted down. I later fired the same two idiots for stealing.

That being said, you ain't gonna break the Teamster's hold on UPS anytime soon.

So tired of even hearing about unions. Agreed, they had their time and place, but gave really overstayed their welcome. 2 friends work for unions and they hate them, but it’s the only way to be in their line of work.

I know someone who’s husband has worked for UPS as a driver and is therefore a union member. He has been with them for over 20 years she finally had enough of his drinking and kicked him out as it was causing problems in their marriage and apparently at work too. The union support him and helped him file for benefits and get early retirement. Unions are a joke!

everyone wants MORE and MORE and not just UPS.

they are saying they don't get enough hours??

There is a super nice guy on the THF who works for UPS, maybe he'll chime in. He doesn't come on here much anymore though.

I'm an engineer at a large defense contractor. The only thing the union does here is keeps morons who should be fired from getting fired. Our company would be much better without the union.

Does the union/strike cover more than just UPS, like FedEx, USPS, DHL etc...? Otherwise the strike will just cause UPS to lose market share.

Actualy reading up on this, UPS market share in the US is about 25%, and if full strike occurred, it's competition could not absorb the volume resulting in supply chain issues, just when we are just now getting over the supply chain issues from the pandemic.

I gave up on UPS when they enacted the policy of refusing to ship long guns intrastate between non-licensees.

Never been a union member. But, I’ve done a lot of high level consulting with Executives. Pretty cold, heartless bunch. I assured that my contracts were iron clad; especially when I got paid.

I understand why some companies need to unionize.

Unions are a solution, but is it the best solution? I say no. A better solution is for those workers to leave the company/industry if they do not like the pay, this will force those businesses to provide better pay...Letting free markets work is the best solution.

A lot of this has happened in the last 3 years. Some employers have learned that it takes good wages and benefits to keep employees. Employees also learned that employer horse hockey does not have to be put up with. There are others willing to hire them.

The labor and management relationship will always be a pendulum that swings both ways. Management begins taking advantage of workers and they respond, just as management does when workers take too far an advantage of their position.

But at the end of the day, you must admit UPS has always blown the socks off the USPS.

Yep, when I was in college I was a member of Steelworkers #1. In the 3 summers I worked at the mill we only went on strike for a day. I was not happy to drive 25 miles to work and then lose a day's pay. When I worked in the mobile home industry management would have to leave the premises when there was a union vote. If they happened to vote for the union we just shut the plant down. Mobile home plants are not capital intensive.

Yep. Our grandfather and father instilled in us that if the shop ever went union, just chain the doors, and we were prepared to do so.

I had a couple of IBEW "officers" sitting out in our parking lot, watching some contractor (non-union) linemen training in our training field. I asked if I could help them. They bowed up and made threatening comments regarding our business, while sitting in their car, mind you, on my property. We had "words". They left. They redefined "losers".

I’m not changing anybody’s mind, if you haven’t worked for UPS you wouldn’t understand the mentality of the company.

Hiring Carol Baskins to run it just like she did Home Depot was a really bad idea.

It's going to cause a lot more than that. If UPS strikes for 5 days it will take them at least 20 to recover. Meanwhile the 130m packages a week they normally carry can't be absorbed by their competition. If they strike it's going to be a s-show in the logistics business for 6 weeks.
