Haven’t been on much, but thought I’d stop in. Recently closed on a small ranch for my family in Concho County. Got some cameras set up, and it has been fun seeing some of the residents. We will probably get rid of the majority of the exotics, but going to take some time to actually find out what’s out there.

Congrats on the place, some nice critters on it. I might thin the herd on a place with exotics but like the idea of fresh meat year round and hunting opportunities year round they do offer. In addition Fallow are good but will take an axis for eating any time over whitetail or fallow. But to each their own.

CONGRATS DUDE! That's awesome. The kids are going to love that.

I ran across a couple high fence escapees (fallow) few years back and they are delicious. Kathy ate it and told me to never pass on one, she liked it better than deer. Enjoy it man!

As a matter of curiosity why are you planning to thin out the exotics? Appears to be a nice place you will be able to really enjoy.

A lot of people(not all) like whitetail over exotics and some exotics compete directly with Whitetail. Im not sure thats his reason but its a reason for some.
My BIL(and sister) bought a section outa Ozona about 20 years ago and the biologist encouraged them to shoot every Axis they saw.

Exotics. High fence?

It’s a high fence place, and I don’t want all the exotics competing with whitetail or running up my feed bill. I’ll keep some - just haven’t decided what yet. The fallow will go for sure. Need a more accurate count on numbers of axis, red stag, etc. I may pick one exotic species to raise - or I may not. We just closed 2 weekend ago. We are mostly working on getting the house set up, cleaning up outside around the house, etc.

Odd - Stx didn’t mention that in his management thoughts.
