Does anyone know of a good source for hatch chile's? I've bought them from HEB in the past and they're good, just looking to try something new. Fresh or dried is fine.

You need to wait at least month and a half till the start of the season. Once they're here, pretty much every grocery store has them. If I'm buying in bulk, I've found Kroger to have the best prices.

Best flavor ill be later in Aug. and into Sept.

Some farms out of Hatch sell dried online.
I'd wait and get fresh roasted when in season and freeze them.

How much do you pay for a bushel down there?
I think ours went up to $35 or so, roasted, maybe $40.

Colorado grows some great chiles too, Pueblo(Mosco) and Eastern Co grows all heat levels. Pope Farms has good chiles out of Colorado.

I don't have a good idea on market prices, the last couple of years I've found a guy selling them out of the bed of his pickup on the side of the road.

I'll have to try some of those Colorado chiles and see what the flavor and spice is like.

They grown a few varieties down near Pueblo but they are known for their version of the mirasol, the Mosco pepper. It is usually medium to hot and good flavor and thickness.
We get ours mostly from Pope farms in E Colorado, various varieties and they bring up the Pueblo grown Moscos and sell them roasted.

My Tom Thumb/Albertsons ad I got this week has the case special.

25# box of hatch is $24.75, and they’ll roast on site. At select Tom thumbs in dfw area this Saturday and Sunday, 9am-6pm

I would not want to be the associate having to roast peppers in the parking lot this weekend. Be a hot one.

I bought somewhere around ~17 pounds and roasted them yesterday morning on my gas grill. I find a gas grill works best for roasting. Then, I put them all in covered stainless steel bowls for 30 minutes or more, which allows the skin to peel off very easily. I then vacuum sealed them. I'll use about half right now for hatch chili salsa (which freezes really well) and then use the rest on dishes throughout the year. [Linked Image]

Making my chile run down to Colorado on the 27th. Getting at least a bushel maybe more.
You all are making me hungry.

Gringo, y'all are killin' me.
When I lived in southern NM, we would take an unhurried drive up the back highway along the Rio Grande to Hatch and buy a couple of boxes of chiles and have them roasted on the spot, put them in the truck, and then walk over to Sparky's for the "World Famous."
Bliss. Absolute bliss.
Only better green chile cheeseburger I ever had was at the Oso Grill in Capitan -- across the street from Smokey Bear State Park, where Smokey lies buried, God bless that bear who meant so much to us kids growing up in the 1950s and 1960s.
