Everyone ready? Seems like this will be a super big deal for a lot of cities in the direct path. Almost all places to stay are already booked for crazy high prices. I had no idea it was this big.

Good maps on this site. https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/april-8-2024

Does anyone have a way to contact business' or colleges to see if they want to rent a ranch? We are debating renting the entire ranch to one group as it would be easier than renting campsites to 3-500 people. I'm 90% sure people will come to us here in 5-6 months but we'd like to figure it out now so we have time to prepare or fix the ranch to meet their needs.

Where's the ranch? You might want to contact your city. Most cities are already preparing for the event.

Just out of curiosity I called the local Holiday Inn Express and yep, every room is already booked for that date.

The only BnB left is wanting $2,000 per night with a 3 night minimum LOL And I bet it gets booked soon.

They are predicting small towns will have 5-20x the normal amount of people (depending on town size) . Traffic jams for a long time once the event ends.

The ranch is in Bend (west of Lampasas) One of the highest or longest totality times of 4 minutes 13 seconds.
Just read in 2017 a State Park auctioned off 30 camping sites for that eclipse and they sold for 60k (yes $60,000) or 2k per campsite...as in pitching a tent LOL

If people weren’t so damn nasty I’d rent out 30x30 camp sites on our 10 acres. We are within a few miles of dead center. Checked and all the motels here are booked - one room in Canton and it’s $699 per night at the super8 - dang!

Our city is already preparing for it. Plans are being made for the influx of people. It's not just all places being booked but we're expecting every bar ditch, parking lot, and empty space to be full. The major concern for us is getting the people out once it's over.

We are having a town meeting about it. Cooper lake is supposed to be the 8th best site in the state to see it. I'll stay home and lock the doors.

Get a good 4x4 with a winch and head to where ever the ground is wettest near center eclipse. You'd make a fortune pulling people out of ditches at $500 a pop. If it rains I bet there are literally thousands stuck in ditches just around Lampasas.

A lot of rain Sat/Sun and RVs will be stuck lots of places also. Would be pure chaos.

Stock up on cases of water, coolers and ice. Get your utv, load up and drive up and down the side of the jammed packed non moving roads and sell bottle of water and pop and ridiculous mark up. You'll be amazed at your sales to unprepared people stuck in traffic. Make a bunch of P&B sandwiches and every veh with kids in it is an easy $20 to sandwiches and 2 waters.....

Load or build a porta pee/poop on a trailer and tow behind your utv in traffic. People will pay the use fee.

So what’s the big deal?

It’s the first of April so I’d say the odds are about 90% chance it’s cloudy anyway,

Yep... Hotels will make out on this event for sure. I'll probably charge premium rates on my VRBO, Law of supply and demand.

For some reason, this thread reminded me of an old motel on the north side of Austin, right on 35, long-since torn down. It had a hand-painted sign on the outside wall that stated "No Protituchon!" roflmao

They calculated odds of like 81% it will be clear skies here in Texas. They say Texas has the highest % chance to watch it and weather not screw it up.

Read a couple websites and it'll blow your mind how many years they've been planning for this.

I'll pay someone a finders fee if they can find a company wanting to rent my ranch. I know plenty are out there looking for a place I just have no idea how to get my ranch name to them. I am placing one ad on one eclipse website but other than that ???

Just saw one guy in Lampasas renting parking, just for the day, and will make $150,000 if he sells out at $200 a car.
