In about a week, taking the family to Corpus Christi for a couple days. Thinking of stopping around New Braunfels or San Marcos area for lunch on the way back. Anyone have thoughts on where to stop for not too much dinero with 2 small kids?

Herberts Taco Hut, not far off of I35, on the South bound side. San Marcos BBQ, on the northbound side of I35.

Those both look like good options.

Grist Mill in Gruene is busy, different, family friendly and typically well rec'd. It is somewhat of a special setting. It is also not far off 35 and at lunch, shouldn't be too busy.

While Gristmill is good, and usually crowded, a few doors down is Gruene River Grill is our go to right now when we get out of the house.

First time I saw Max Stallings was at The Aardvark in Fort Worth. Hard to beat the bleu cheese filet at GRG.

Dad used to take us there in the 70s, is it still in business?

What was seen in the 70's is really nothing like it is now. Krause's rolling better than ever. Low hanging fruit which I missed.

Thanks for all the advice. Wife ended up wanting to try Black's BBQ due to them sponsoring The Texas Bucket List show, so we ended up going there. She was really pleased with the choice. When we can ditch the kids with one of the sets of grandparents, we're planning on a day to our selves down there so maybe we can try a couple of the other places. She's a beer fan so I'm guessing Krause's will be on the list.

Which Blacks location? San Marcos, Lockhart, or New Braunfels

We went to the one in New Braunfels. After the stop-n-go traffic in San Antonio, we were all ready for a stop. Timed it just right. At 1230 the parking lot was full, but the line was short, and the place started emptying out just in time for the next rush starting short after 1300.

Between Blacks, Bill Miller, Coopers and Rudys, I bet there is more than $12 million in barbecue sold annually along that short stretch of Loop 337.
