If SHTF cash will be king the first week or so, so if you have it definitely spend it early and spend it all. Then I also stack precious metals for after the paper money is worthless.

I have 50 female pigs and 50 male deer. Add them together and you have a hundred sows and bucks.
Of course we have stashed cash, be foolish not to.

Yes, keep enough cash on hand to get out of a jam or just in case I need to make a cash purchase. I hate having to run to the bank to withdrawal cash.
If the [censored] really hit the fan the only thing that is gonna matter is bullets and bartering items such as fuel, food or tools;cash, gold or any other metal is gonna be useless.

Yes, but it’s unfortunate. I used to consider it my fun money put aside for questionable decisions. Now it has a bit more serious meaning. Not sure how much is there, it get a few dollars added regularly.

Gotta have other forms of trade currency too. Perspective value is one hell of a thing after monetary value has dissolved

Bingo Gold has literally been the “gold standard” for thousands of years. I doubt if SHTF gold would just be useless. Gold will be just as valuable as it was to the ancients.

My main reason for having 10-20 stacks on hand at any time was I had a girlfriend that was crazy enough to need bond money at night to get her out. Those days are over but I still like having a chunk of cash on hand. I’ve scored several nice items because other folks had to wait until they could get to a bank for cash.

I had a "friend" decades ago get put in Dallas County jail for drugs or possesion, I was able to bail her out directly at Lew Sterret, didn't need a bails bonds man they had a window at Lew Sterret where you paid like 10% cash if I remember correctly Does most jails still have this as an option? I thought it was great since I didn't have to deal with any bailsbonds people, just dealt with the City of Dallas directly.

Before retirement in my job we got reimbursed for mileage and expenses, I always stashed this money for vacations, going to dinner, gun buying etc. I never really counted it just stuffed it, then one day sat down and counted it. I about fell out of my chair as to how much I had. It was good knowing I had a cash stash.

Bingo Gold has literally been the “gold standard” for thousands of years. I doubt if SHTF gold would just be useless. Gold will be just as valuable as it was to the ancients. so lets say society goes into panic and U.S legal tender suddenly becomes worthless. You need something I have like rope, diesel or ammo. How do you think I'm going to respond if you say "hey, let me shave you off a little of this gold bar here"? Its only value is what someone else is willing to trade for it. Oh, by the way, better bring your scales with you as well.....

Spend it quickly may not be a bad idea, and buy items that you can barter with. If the bottom drops we will see a cashless society happen quick. Some stores are already card only, cash will be worthless soon anyway. I even tried to buy a new car with cash, they acted like they didn't know what to do with it. They said a transfer for $$$ was just as good as cash for $$$. I have always wondered how gold and silver will do. I keep cash for opportunity purchases.
