Anyone ever hunted or stayed at Hidden Lakes hunting lodge in Yantis? Looking for reviews on the quality of their upland bird hunts, lodge, food, overall experience. How did it compare to other areas you've hunted or lodges you've stayed at?

I did Greystone Castle last year and really enjoyed it so wondering how it compares if anyone has been to both.

Appreciate the info.

Food is excellent, professional chef and all that. The property is very pretty and the people are friendly. I’ve done a number of tower shoots out there and one combo quail/pheasant hunt. The quail flew well, but I think the pheasant are better shot from the tower. I’ve never hunted chukar out there, and I’ve never spent the night, so I can’t comment on the sleeping arrangements.

I've always heard go to Rough Creek Resort near Glen Rose. Know nothing about Hidden Lakes but do think I saw it featured on one of those Sat./Sun. morning DFW outdoor segments on TV. Sermed good.

I went to their website just out of curiosity and couldn't find their prices. That's when I remembered the old saying, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." frown

It’s cheaper than Greystone. For a 3 day/2 night with 4 hunts and lodging/meals/guide/dogs/birds is $2600.

Website looks good. Might be a good father's day present for my dad.

I enjoyed watching a driven grouse hunt in Scotland. All in the party were American. Stupid money. Silly arse clothing style show, if you ask me. But the dog handlers, townsfolk beating the bush, etcetera, were the bomb.

The tower shoots are considerably more challenging than you might expect, particularly early in the season. Don’t knock it until you have tried it.

That's what I always thought, but it is better than you think. They have a really good tower set up, and the pheasants are really strong flyers.

The tower down at Pecan Ridge in Scurry is about 75-100ft in the air. The circle of shooters is I think 50-75 yards from the tower. The birds are tossed as singles or doubles out of the top of the tower, whichever way they fly is who gets a shot at the birds. I worked my Lab with Ravenwood Retrievers and my pup picked up 32 birds that day. I noticed that the birds were most flying down wind. Lots of fun just working my dog. Call Ross at Pecan Ridge Hunting Preserve, he'll set you up with a good time.
