Load it up with 180 grain accubonds and you’re good to go.
My .300 win has virtually made all my other rifles obsolete. only thing i dont use mine for is whitetail hunting.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

My Kimber 300 WM coupled with 180 grain bullets has proven quite effective and especially on Nilgai. I need to get out there again.

Mine is a custom, but 180 grain bullets seems to be what the 300 likes.

Because of the short neck for best accuracy in the 300 you need the longest bullets you can possibly use that will still stabilize with your twist rate. I have always liked the 208gr Amax but I believe they may be out of production. The tolerance for the chamber on the 300 Win Mag is also kind of sloppy. If you're building your own gun look into getting one of the reamers from Mason Precision that tighten up the tolerances quite a bit. I don't know if that reamer is a cataloged item or if you have to ask for it specifically.

I've loaded a ton of 200 gr ELD-X for other people's .300 Win Mags.
Buying a new rifle, get a 300 PRC. It is a better cartridge.

Mine shoots ELD-X 212 gr really well. J.G. developed the load.

My favorite round is still a 300 WM. A 180 grain is kind of like peanut butter and jelly. It's just goes together. But, when you start shooting the heavier bullets, the 300 WM becomes a new animal. I've shot mine out to 1 mile+, and everywhere in between. ^^ What? Can you expand on those comments?

I shoot a 215 Berger hybrid which I would have no issues shooting an animal with. I also load a 220 gr smk which again I would shoot an animal with but let me preface with I am aiming for a shoulder bone area for the most traumatic impact one can get. The 212 hornady eld does pretty well as well. I personally believe the sweet spot for the win mag is the 200-220 gr range. Retumbo and Lapua brass on a magnum match primer is money.

Sure can. The SAMI spec for the 300 has a bit of a loose neck cut when compared to a more modern cartridge such as the 30 PRC. Mason has a reamer that thightens things up to the same spec as the 30 PRC but they did that before the 30 PRC existed. The short neck on the case makes it easy to have the bullet a bit cockeyed when compared to the bore. In my experience longer bullets don't get as cockeyed as easily.

300 WM is perfect for Nilgai, they are tough skinned animals. 180 to 200 grain will easily do the job. I shot mine with Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip 180 grain several years ago.

This is the ammo that I'm using and I'll never switch to anything else. The solid copper bullet hits with a punch and usually leaves an exit hole. A lot of people claim that the thick hide on a nilgai likes to close up after being shot (not leaving a blood trail to follow). ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-65064-388343-federal_300_win_mag.jpg) This is the description from Federal: FEDERAL Barnes Triple-Shock X .300 Win Magnum 180 Grain 20/Box Ammo P300WP Features: *One-piece copper construction *Deep hollow-point tip *Grooved bullet shank improves accuracy *Almost 100 percent weight retention *Deep penetration and large, consistent expansion Here are a few critters that I've shot using that ammo. DEVASTATING ROUND! With the exception of the nilgai, every animal shot with this load has dropped in its tracks. The nilgai only went 10 steps (you can see the exit hole in the pic). ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-65064-388330-aoudad.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-65064-388338-gemsbok.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-65064-388333-caribou.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-65064-388337-nilgai.jpg) Get yourself a .300 Win Mag for nilgai and other big game species, you won't be sorry.

That's awesome. Mine (pictured above) is a Browning A-Bolt stainless stalker with the BOSS muzzle break. It is super loud, but also super accurate. Hoping that your Browning is also crazy accurate. Best of luck on your nilgai hunt.

I got the Browning X bolt 300 Win Mag can't wait to shoot it. I've done load development for several of them. Due to the length and how thin the barrel is, there is a fairly narrow window of the best powder charge. If you try factory ammo, and do not see a make and model that shoots consistently to your satisfaction, do not fear there is something wrong with the rifle.

I have one built by Alamo Precision that loves the 190g Barnes LRX. Given how tough its been to find that post-covid, however, I'm currently looking for some alternatives. Some really interesting options being made by Cutting Edge Bullets, I have around 200 pieces of once-fired norma brass and will hopefully get a load worked up this summer.

My last 300 Win Mag was a Winchester Black Shadow. Tackdriver with 200 grain Noslers and IMR 7828 powder. Used it for several years on elk and one waterbuck. I used 200 grain Speers for practice. It's 26 inch barrel was just a little long for getting in and out of the truck.
