Anybody hunting the new Neches property?. Every time I've tried to access the road down to the HQ from Hwy 79 the gate to the office looking bldg has been locked. Ron

Erny.... "tough hunt" I knew that the first time the wife and I turned off Hwy79 and went down the road to the main gate. That's why it reminds me of where I hunted hogs on a federal property just off I-10 west of Jacksonville Fl when we lived in Jax. ...and yes to me the Neches swampyness does look like the movie of my childhood called "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" .
My first hunt on the federally owned place that extended across both State Lines Florida & Georgia was by myself, as my range partner had been called back to work as a Florida State Trooper Sgt to chase a super dangerous State Inmate who had escaped.
That was the only time I've ever been tree'd by a large sounder of hogs that could leave mud 7-8'+ up a tree trunk when I couldn't climb any higher neither could the hogs. Finally the hogs got bored about dark and drifted off , and I ran into the Search Party that was coming to find me. Never set foot on the place again ALONE either & ALWAYS left a note on my planned route and destination. Ron

I have a VRBO about 1.5 miles from the refuge, if anyone is ever interested in staying in it you can PM me about it and avoid the fees that come with booking through VRBO.

CK I live about 12 miles from the Refuge. 2 blocks inside the Loop off of Link & the Davy Dogwood Park and about 2 miles from the Chevy dealer & Kim's gas station. Sounds like I need to buy a heavy duty Jon Boat like I could barrow or hire on Caddo or the Sabine River, instead of another 24' Center Console Salt Water Deep V like I had at Texoma by the looks of what I saw at the Neches property.
