A buddy of mine was cleaning out the garage at his ranch and found 5 boxes of .257 Roberts once fired Winchester brass, his dad never owned a .257 Roberts as far as he knows and has no clue where they came from. These Winchester Silvertip boxes are so old the price tags almost make me sick. Any how, my question is, what would be a fair amount for 88 pcs of once fired brass?

How do you know it's once fired? If it is or isn't makes a difference in the value.

New .257 brass is over $2 per case so it seems $100 for the lot is fair to the buyer at least.

Pass the gravy.

His dad never reloaded or shot reloaded ammo, it's all Winchester brass in Winchester boxes.

And his dad never had a .257 Roberts. I bet you could get $120-140 shipped for it on Cast Bullets or 24-hour Campfire.

Pass the gravy.

That he knows of, just doesn't make sense for that much brass to be at the ranch for a gun he never owned. Nobody else hunts there except him, his older brother, me, and his dad before he passed. I reached out to his older brother and he said they did have a couple of rifles get stolen when he was really young but doesn't remember the calibers.

Look at the primers if silver = reloaded , gold copper like = factory in the old Winchester silver tip or power point

Silver = reload —maybe

Gold/Copper = factory— bullcorn

Who has a shinny primer other than cci? There may be others I honestly don’t know.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most primers, factory or reloads, are gold/copper color.

BTW that gold/copper color is very brass looking to me. I don’t know.

All the Winchester LR primers I have on hand are gold/copper. So they still could have been reloads.

I wonder if maybe he bought them by mistake or via a trade with other stuff he wanted?

Bring enough gun.

The only primers I have ever only seen in brass colored cups is Remington. I have seen (and have on hand) plenty of CCI, Federal, and Winchester primers with silver colored cups.

I am using some S&B small rifle primers right now. They are silver.

Pass the gravy.
