Guess there will be a run on light bulbs again. Energy Department moves forward with light bulb banNEW YORK (NewsNation) — Starting in August, Americans will only be able to purchase LED lights from retailers across the nation as an official ban on incandescent lightbulbs will be in full effect. Incandescent lightbulbs have been providing light in American homes since the 1800s, when Thomas Edison patented the bulbs. But now, the nation has evolved into a more energy-efficient society and LED lights have become the new norm. The federal government’s warnings started in January and have been getting progressively more aggressive as they want to make sure Americans don’t go back in time. The government announced a ban on the manufacturing and selling of incandescent bulbs, saying it will help Americans save money and help the environment..... https://www.newsnationnow.com/business/tech/energy-department-light-bulb-ban/

In freezing weather I will use drop lights with incandescent bulbs as heaters around pool equipment that I cover with tarps. No longer being able to get incandescent bulbs is going to cost my customers a lot of money over time.

I think we should ban politicians.

No longer being able to get incandescent bulbs is going to cost my customers a lot of money over time. For our well pump, I went to Home Depot and bought a couple of IR heating lamps that screw into a light bulb socket. They have a built-in thermal control that causes them to come on when the temp gets to around 35°F, and they go off at around 40°F. They've been working well for several years now, and I don't have to make a trip out to turn them on or off when cold weather comes and goes.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

As long as there is interweb, you will be able to buy about anything you need.

Soon you'll only be able to get incandescent bulbs from an unmarked white van in the parking lot of a Kroger...
Yeah, I get around.

We need something for the wellhouse over winter up here, been using a halogen light bulb.

No longer being able to get incandescent bulbs is going to cost my customers a lot of money over time. Can they use heat trace? More expensive of course. Because of how many pipes there are heat trace becomes a nightmare. When I do a tent of tarps over the equipment and put a couple of hundred watt bulbs in drop lights it keeps the inside of the tent quite warm, I've even found Wildlife taking Refuge there. Finding the bulbs has already been tough, I've had to buy the rough service coated bulbs for the past few years. Not to mention pool lights are going to get incredibly expensive. The small ones use a 100 watt bulb that when they banned those they had to go with a 60 watt halogen and the large light fixtures use a 500 w incandescent bulb. No one knows it but LED lights give off gas that is explosive and you cannot use them in a sealed fixture unless it is a very expensive specially designed bulb. There are LED specific light fixtures on the market that do not have serviceable bulbs but they are two and a quarter times the cost of regular fixtures and there are tens of thousands of those regular fixtures in use right now. I have bulb replacements for six scheduled just for today.

I already run LED bulbs almost everywhere but they wreak havoc on garage door openers. Either greatly reduce or kill the range on the remote. Not sure why.
But I don't at all like being told what I can or cannot buy.

I agree, i use LED lightbulbs in almost all my outlets, but i am totally against the govt telling us what we can and can not use.
Another step in the direction of socialism. We are honestly mostly there already. Very few free market things these days

No- no gas emitted. It's because the electronics in a LED bulb (and the LED emitter itself) are sensitive to heat and will fry if they get too hot. A sealed fixture acts like an oven (no ventilation) holding heat in and the temp increases till the electronics fry.

Bush signed EISA (Energy Independence and Security Act) in 2007. " I'm a conservative republican and think the idea is stupid. Trump had put a halt for awhile. Just let the market work. LEDs are much better but if you need an incandescent for something you should be able to buy.

A sealed fixture acts like an oven (no ventilation) holding heat in and the temp increases till the electronics fry. Yep and that’s why powerful ones have a heat sink. The gas explosion thing is BS though.
