Horse and mule feed (sweet feed) works good to establish a feeder area. Just don't put it in the feeder. The hogs, deer, cows, horses, birds, and anything else in the woods will wear that stuff out. You'll even be tempted to pour some in a bowl with milk on it, but it don't taste as good as it looks to humans.

How much is alot of corn. what about mineral licks? a good thing to do would be to getcha a 50# bag, carry it out to where ur feeder is, and just walkin a straight line in any direction, and start making a LITE trail with the corn. then go back to the feeder and go the other way. make a few trails that lead up to the feeder. deer will come. u dont need anything but corn!

Corn, corn, corn, and more corn. Since the place is new to you I'd have my feeder go off 4 times a day for a week or so. And the comment about taking a 50# bag and make a trail leading to the feeder is a good idea also. Are there cattle on the place? If not you will be able to see how much corn the deer are eating when you put it out. We feed Indian corn because the deer really seem to like it and stay at the feeder longer, and longer. Good luck with the new place.

you can also scout the lease, see if you can tell where the last hunters were running feeders. It won't take long for deer to find a spot they have been fed before.
seems like deer find our new spots pretty quickly, but the locations that have been feeding year after year get more activity.
I'm thankful for the things i have and all the things i don't

Looking for help new lease. Best way to draw deer in? try Indian Corn. The deer really seem to like it, and they stay at the feeder longer. (sorry, couldn't help myself . . . . . ). J/K actually, just put a LINK on Yahoo maps; that way when the local deer search for it, they will find it faster . . . .

If you put the feeder in an area of deer, it can only take a single day sometimes for them to start hitting it.

A few years ago, I bought my place and it didn't close until after rifle season started. I had put in the stipulations for purchase that I would be able to hunt while waiting for the land to close. Some poor guy lost his lease...sorry. I put up a couple of feeders and saw more deer that year than the other two years that I have hunted the place. I still see plenty of deer, but I have not had the numbers that I saw the first year. Do you think it has something to do with my neighbor (bought property the same year that I did) throwing 500-1000 lbs of corn out every few days before the season starts? Thank God I can over there, too.

One year I got on a lease too late to build a blind or feeder. I picked out a hill that overlooked a small clearing. When I arrived at the lease on Friday night, I would put out a sorghum block and pour a jar of Old Grandma's molasses over it. It attracted more deer than the corn feeders.
