A while back I acquired a large frame AR in .260 that Cast put together about ten years ago. It never ran right for him, but all that was wrong was it had the incorrect buffer and spring in it. I had to make a lot of other minor changes for it to suit me also. After getting that straightened out I found that it is a helluva shooter and I scoped it for daytime pig hunting. I got to use it several weeks back and I really, really liked it and the fact that it shoots *lights out.* I decided I'd like another one just like it for night hunting and set out to build one. The idea was to eliminate my hunting AR15s.

So, shopping I went starting with the barrel. I went with a Lilja just like the Cast gun has, figuring that was the reason it is so accurate. I went with a KAK upper and lower, an Aero Precision bolt, a Geissele SSA-E trigger, and a Smith Vortex flash hider. The grip is a Magpul MOE-K2+ and I selected a Wilson Combat handguard with a full length rail covering up the YHM gas block.

It came out rather handsome, I think, but a bit heavy at an ounce over 9 pounds but that won't matter...it's likely to be a lot heavier than that with either a Super Slam 3-15x50 or my newer AGM Adder thermal on it. After I shoot it I will decide but at this point I think this new one needs the Super Slam on it because it has a longer length of pull due to the A2 stock I put on it, and that Weaver has a LOT of eye relief.

I will shoot this one first with a conventional scope to see whether it likes the same load the first .260 likes (I sure hope so---having day and night guns shooting the very same ammo was a part of the plan). My money is on outstanding accuracy, just like the Cast gun. We shall see.

I sure like your plan of having identical day and night rifles.

Thanks Greg.

I hope it works out, 603. I'm pretty confident that it will. I've had a day and night pair for a while, both in 6mm AR. There's nothing wrong with the rifles or the cartridge, but there's just no denying that the .260 is just a lot more cartridge than the 6mm AR. But still, what brought me here is just the way that first .260 shoots. It's the best shooting AR I've ever owned, and I've had a few. It's the one I WANT to shoot.
